    Folks,
I have tried to DL new mp3's to the MMC card using a MMC card
reader/writer (via USB on PC). Whilst I can write the mp3's without
problem, and they are shown as available, when I try to play them the
phone tries then goes to the next one in the list. There is a kind of
'crackle' as it tries to play it, but it fails to play.
If its important, the MP3 is and audio book and is c5Mb.

Any ideas? Do I have to do some kind of conversion?

For info the MP3 plays fine in RealOne from the PC.

    Regards,
    Mike

I can't help with your problem, because I didn't quite understand it, but I
can tell that playing MP3s from my 128 MB MMC (Verbatim) is working just
fine -- one by one or from a playlist.

how did you record the mp3's? some programs add ID3 tag or other data which
makes it unreadable to most mp3 players out of a PC. i use winamp info file
reader to delete the ID3 tag so i can play the mp3's in my in car mp3
    player.

another suggestion which may be totally wide of the mark:
when i rip mp3s from cd for my pda, i have to have the quality set to moderate
to high or they will not play on my pda despite working fine on the pc.
somehow the increased compression stops them from working...

    just a thought!

I had a similar problem when I converted some .mp3's to .aac - the files
were corrupt (I guess) and did not play - instead, my phone hang up and I
heard that 'crackle' you're talking about.
The thing I did was: re-converted my mp3's to 1. clean them from any
unnescesary data 2. reduce them in filesize (select 128 kb/s).
I used dBpowerAMP Music Converter - just do a Google and you should be able
    to find it.

    Good luck!

    Keun.

Just one further piece of info.... One of the clips plays. It is just
below 5Mb. the others are all greater than 5Mb. Is there a limit on
    filesize?

5Mb is well above the average mp3 file size

mine weigh in at 2-3.5 k per track for near cd-quality (96 kbps), so that
sounds like it might be the problem as described above. unless they're really
    long tracks...

No, there doesn't seem to be any. I usually listen with full success to
    7-8MB mp3's. No problem.
