Movies on phones

Has anyone watched a movie on the 6600/N gage/3650. What's it like quality
wise and is it actually watchable??

I've watched plenty on my 6600. The quality depends on how you choose to
convert the movie to 3gp. As to whether the film is watchable or not, well
that depends on which player you use to play it back in. If you use the
default Realplayer then you'll be limited to a non full screen version. If
you choose Phillips Camcoder however you can get full screen playback of
video but no WideBand AMR (which means better sound).

So what is the best way to convert them?

I personnaly don't like 3gpp . For watching movies on my ngage I use
smartmovie player on the phone with its integrated converter for Windows
(using standard xvid compression for video and Lame MP3 for audio). Here are
the settings I use for good quality:
-video: 128kbps
-audio: 16khz@24kbps (with 200-300% volume boost depending of the source
volume)

with these settings a 1h30 movies fit into about 60Mo with acceptable
quality . I usually split 1 movie into 4 files.

I haven't used Smartmovie as paying $20 just to watch films on my phone
seems excessive. Still each to their own I suppose.

To SmartMobileZone I would say, try Nokia MultiMedia Converter 2.0
(available free from the Nokia Developer Forums) and encode the films at
128kbps for Video and if you're playing back using RealPlayer choose WB AMR
as this gives a cleaner (though lower volume) sound. If you are going to use
another player to play the films (Philips CamCoder for example) then you are
limited to AMR sound only, which while acceptable is distorted at high
volumes and of a lower quality than WB AMR.

Or I suppose if you are seriously into movies on your phone you could pay
for a player and converter package like Smartmovie.
