I've always used Lame VBR encoded MP3's, but find that even with a 512MB MMC
I don't get as many tracks as I would like (only managing around 40-50).
Anyway, I've been experimenting with the Nero AAC encoder and find that a
much lower CBR 128 or 160kbps, I can get as good a result as a much higher
bitrate MP3 (no surprise there I hear you say).
Well, after ripping and encoding (using EAC and Naacenc.exe) then converting
from MP4 to AAC (using dBpowerAMP Music Converter), a whole batch of CD's,
I'm finding that the track ID tag is no longer being used by the phone's
music player, for AAC files that is!
I've checked to see if the tag is present in the file and it would seem so.
However, if I load the track into the Nokia Audio Manager, I find that I
have to add the artist name to the track (even though it is present in the
tag). And even after this, when the file is uploaded to the phone, the tag
is lost (or at least not shown).
Does this problem occur on later firmware - mine's quite old: v3.17. Does
later firmware fix this problem?

Try using WinAMP, it plays AAC file. You can add the file info as ID3v1
tags. Works for me.

Re: N6230 - no track ID tag shown for AAC files?
Try Winamp, latest release. It plays AAC files and can edit the Track
ID. Use ID3v1, not v2. You can also RIP your CD into AAC format, despite
saying that only the pro version does it. Works for me.

I don't trust anything else but EAC to rip audio cd's.
