can anyone shed light on some weird stuff happening with my phone?
i have a nokia 3210. i have a friend's cellphone number stored in the
phone. if she sends sms to me, the phone doesn't recognise her number as
one that's stored, the screen displays her number at the top of the
message. if anyone else messages me, their stored name appears above the
message. also in the inbox, where other people's messages will be listed
by their stored name, hers are listed with the actual text of the message.
she is unable to receive sms from me. there used to be no problem, but
one day the ability to receive my messges just stopped. my phone shows
them as sent successfully, whether i reply to one of hers or create a
message and send to the stored details (same number, no difference).
needless to say, her provider and mine both blame the other. but i
wonder if the fact that my phone doesn't seem to recognise her number is
signficant in this.
if anyone has any interesting theories on this, i'm all ears

Hi there,
I had a same kind of problem (not showing the caller name)
with my 6210 (or was it 3210, don't remember) and the
reason was that I had the very same number stored in my
phone twice.
When the call came, phone just couldn't decide which name to show.
According my understanding, 3210 uses 6 (or 7) last numbers
of the phone number to identify the caller, if you have two almost
identical numbers, for example 0401234567 and 0509234567
stored under different names, in some Nokia phone models
it will not show the caller name for either number.
Try to find if you have your friend number stored twice.
What comes to the problem that sms is not going through,
I have no idea. Hopefully you will get a solution.
BR,

Re: stored number not recognised
yes, rami, i had the number in several times, each new addition was part
of an effort to make the sms work! anyway, i've deleted all but one and
now i'm going to wait til she sends another sms. thanks for the suggestion.

Re: stored number not recognised
well that fixed the problem of the caller not being recognised! thanks
rami.
now if i can only find out why the other person doesn't receive my sms
... then everything would be perfect!
