How do I get rid of the standard Orange screensaver and replace it with
    something better?

I have some nice themes but then this snowy mountain scene appears with
    the orange logo.

I have tried transferring an animated GIF but it just gives me the
option to use it as wallpaper.

The screensaver on 6630 is a .sis file placed on the phones rom and as far
as I know you cannot get rid of it so easily. If you have nokia theme studio
you can make a theme and its screensaver but it asks you for a .sis file. So
far, I didn't manage to change it as it is place in rom memory and don't
want to make some stupid thing trying to change it.

So if I find a theme with a screensaver or a screensaver standalone in
a .sis file, it wouldn't use that in preference to the default? I have
changed my theme from the default built in one supplied by Orange. Its
such a relief to have a phone where I'm not stuck with orange icons

A friend of mine tried to make a screensaver by his own, so far he didn't
    manage to change it.

Is this just on Orange 6630 where you are stuck with the inbuilt
screensaver? Also could there be screensavers in the themes I have but
    I am being denied them?

I suppose its not a big problem as its only on for 10 seconds or so
before the backlight goes off and it gets replaced with a time/date bar
(which I can't see properly without the backlight)

My phone is from TIM (Italy). I wouldn't say it's not a big problem because
the TIM's ss is made of 9 animated gif images and it is setlled with a plug
in to appear and last x seconds

But you wouldn't want to keep the back light on unnecessarily to
preserve battery life though. Do you not get the clock bar?

At first the screen shows the clock bar with no light, after a minute the ss
appears for about 10 secs, with light and after that again the clock bar,
    without light.

Right. I think you'd agree it is pretty pointless and it wouldn't be
such a problem if Orange hadn't used such a lame picture. Probably so
not to offend anyone in the conservative business arena
