SHOULD be able to do so, if all the networks follow similar patterns..

I am with Vodafone UK, and able to collect e-mails (headers only) from my
pop3 account. Once I have seen the header, then I may choose to download the
full e-mail (text only) should I desire.

I mention "text only" as any pictures, etc, cannot be downloaded.

The mail DOES remain on my e-mail server, so I am then able to
    retrieve/delete from my pc.

As stated, this works fine with Voda UK (and mail may be collected via CSD
    (dial up) or via GPRS.

    Good luck

PS/ This can be done whether PAYGo or contract, just requires slightly
    different settings.

Ok. I made an error. my mailserver had collected the mail immediately
after I downloaded with the mobile. but it didn't show up yet on the pc.
and the isp webmail was showing it had gone so I assumed the phone had
    taken it.
messages do stay on isp server.
    cheers
