    Hi,
I currently use a Nokia 6310i and most of my phone numbers are stored
in the 6310i phone memory, not on the SIM. I just bought a new 6680
and I need to transfer all those numbers from the old phone to the new
one. I regularly use the PC Suite (version 4.88) to backup my 6310i
numbers to my PC. The questions is whether the file format
(phonebook.ncc) is compatible with the 6680 as the 6680 comes with a
much newer version of the PC Suite.

    Thanks.

I am sure if you make sure you have the latest version of PC Suite for
you 6310i then you should be able to export them to the 6680.

Yes, 4.88 is the latest (and probably last) version for the 6310i.

If in doubt export as CSV file.

    Recent development:
    1. Installed latest PC Suite (6.6).
    2. Used the Backup function to read the 6310i (sub-function "transfer
contents from phone to PC"). Success
    3. Used the same to copy the data from the PC to the new phobe
("transfer contents from PC tp phone)". Failure - log was cryptic,
just said the there was an error during Contacts copy.
    4. I'm stuck. I'll transfer the data either via Outlook (using the
Synchronization utility) or will send the contacts, one by one, via
    SMS or bluetooth.

If anyone has seen this failure, please respond.

Re: Transfer phone data from 6310i to 6680

I managed to get it to work from my 6310i to my 6680 by using PC suite
4.88 to back up the phone, I then had to uninstall v4.88 and install
the version for the 6680 (6.6 I think) and access the backup file from
v4.88 using v6.6 to get stuff to transfer onto the 6680.

It's a while since I've done it now, but I seem to recall that I got an
error message but the contacts went onto the 6680 anyway. The error
message was associated with transferring the text messages that I
couldn't get to move over to the 6680 at all. I think I may have posted
something at the time, but I can't find it now.

If all else fails and you really want to do it, Oxygen phone manager II
should be able to do it. Cost around 30 squid though which is a bit
steep for use with just one phone (which is the only reason I've not
    bought it yet).

This is from Mac land, but the technique might work for you. Phone
Manager for Macintosh handles all the fields in the 6310i and can save
them as a file on the Macintosh. The same vendor also has Phone Director
for Macintosh which can import (and therefore translate) the 6310i file
and then save it perfectly on the 6230. Support of the 6680 was just
    added.

The reason for telling you this is to look and see if the newer PC Suite
has an import function that reformats the data.

No Mac for me :-(. The latest PC Suite (6.6) can directly read old NCC
files that are created by version 4.x. but when I use it it also fails
    in the 'copy contact' step.

I finally gave up on the backup option in the PC Suite and used the
Synchronize - first synced my old 6310i to MS Outlook 2003, then
synced the PC to the new 6680. Worked without a hitch. Case closed.
