Hi there - My Dad's recently gone for a Nokia 6680 on Vodafone. I've
tried to up his POP3 email on it, like I have got on my Orange Nokia
6680, but it won't let you change certain settings which means that he
    can't access his email!

    - It won't allow you to change IMAP to POP3 (like it does on my Orange
    one).

    - It won't allow you to select 'download headers only' and only gives
you options to download a mex amount of emails in one time.

This is really frustrating and means he can't get his email on his
phone. It's nothing special, just normal pop3 email account settings,
but becuase his Nokia 6680 is on Vadfone, it seems like they've locked
it down so that you can only use it access Vodafone email!

Can anyone shed any light on this or help us in any way please?

    Thanks,

    Paul

Go to the Nokia site and getting the setting sent to the phone. That's how I
got my POP3 mail sent to me on my Vodafone 6680.

They haven't locked anything down, and you can do all the things you want.
Keep calm and look at the manual...!

Hint: you need to create a new mailbox for your new e-mail account -
    Messaging-Options-Settings-E-mail-Mailboxes-Options-New mailbox.

Delete the vodafone account and make a new one, just be sure to set the
Contract Internet as your access point

Another question along similar lines.... when configuring an extra
mail account on the 6680, how do you tell it to use authenticated
SMTP? Or, if that isn't possible, is there an SMTP server (Vodafone,
UK, contract) that I can use for outgoing email?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

    Use send.vodafone.net

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I already tried that and have
it configured to use that server at the moment. I have a message
queued in the Outbox. If I do an "Options" "Send" from Outbox it
says 'Connecting via contract internet", then "Message sending
failed. Check email settings". The contract internet APN is working
    fine for receiving email.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Strange, I have a 6680 on vodafone contract and the above works fine for me.

After staring at this for a while I've discovered that if I turn
off SSL for the connection to my IMAP account then SMTP sending via
send.vodafone.net works fine, but if I turn SSL on for the IMAP
connection then SMTP via send.vodafone.net stops working. Is this
a bug, or do I have something misconfigured?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

SSL is configured at Vodafone's end. If they enable it then you do, if
    they don't then you don't.

I understand that. The problem is that if I enable SSL on the IMAP
connection (i.e. tell it to use SSL when fetching email from (my
own) IMAP server) then SMTP via send.vodafone.net stops working.
When I turn off IMAPS and use IMAP instead then SMTP starts working
again. It doesn't appear to be possible to use plain old SMTP at
the same time as IMAPS on the 6680.

I also can't see a way to use authenticated SMTP but that's a
    different problem..

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Sounds like you may have to talk to Vodafone.
