I have an old Nokia 5190 that I want to use in a data reporting
application --- it will send SMS under computer control. The phone has
a security code that my daughter set years ago and no one can remember
the code.
Is there a way for a user to reset the phone to factory defaults or at
least clear it back to setup mode?
Thanks

If you have a data cable which I suspect you do then search for Nokia
Tools - this will read the code for you, and can also reset the code for
you.
If you cannot find this s/w then drop us a email and we will send it across.
