Limited 6101 alert tones?

Are the 4 or 5 .mid 6101 SMS alert tones all that is allowed? Can I use
an mp3 or something? Anyone know where some detailed specs on what is
and is not possible on this phone? I have searched the Nokia website
until my eyeballs dropped out.

I've had no problem with MP3 and Midi files on my 6101 but I only need
3 ringtones and 1 alert tone. The most detail you'll find is in the
phone's manual which I've read online.

The manual doesn't answer my question. Can I use my own midi/mp3 files
for alerts? I have no problem with ring tones, but I cannot seem to
choose an alert tone other than he defaults.

I've transferred midis to my 6101 into the Gallery/Tones/Alert Tones
folder and they work.

Yes. This phone does support custom MP3, MIDI ( 24 voices ), AMR ( NB-AMR)
and True Tones (WB-AMR). You can find the most complete specifications here:
