How to change SMS Message memory location?

Hi,

I have a Nokia 6230. Which has three memory locatios - The SIM card,
Phone memory and the Memory card.
By default all the incoming SMS messages are saved to the Phone memory.
What I
want to know is if there is a way to change the SMS messages memory
location to the SIM card (not Phone memory or the 32MB memory card that
comes with the phone).
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

That's interesting - my 6230 saves it's incoming SMS messages to the SIM
card. I noticed this when I changed to a Canadian SIM card after leaving for
a holiday - I noticed that some of my funny ones that friends had sent me
were gone.
It saves it's MMS messages to the phone memory though.
If that's the case - there must be a setting there somewhere - we shouldn't
have two same model phones doing different things.

Another thought - it could have something to do with firmware version, or
the SIM that you currently are using ...if it's got none, or low, memory
capabilities then the phone might automatically save the messages
internally.

Somebody else might have some hard knowledge on this.

That I know of, I don't think that it is possible to save anything to a
sim chip, except for phone number and contact names. You phone number
and account balances are not even stored in the chip, except for the
fact that the chip's serial number is 'associated' with your
information when you attach to the network (ex. turning on the phone,
or jumping to another tower). When phones display menu settings for
saving to sim chip, this only refers to the contacts or phonebook
information. I don't even think the concept of 'groups' are saved to
the sim chip, but I may be in error on that point. I know that on my
Nokia 6101, for instance, I can put an email address, a street address
or even a web site along with the phone number but these are always
stored in the phone memory.

As far as saving sms messages go, the only way to save them would be to
forward messages to a regular email, like a yahoo or gmail (gmail works
particularly well for this) but this would depend on if your service
provider allows your messages to be sent to email addresses as well as
cell phones.

I'm suprised that no one has invented a 'virtual' cell phone to use on
the internet, that could send and receive message, voicemail, etc...
without actually BEING a cell phone.

Of course, I've used the yahoo mobile to send text messages for free,
but you can't receive them with that facility. Yahoo also supports data
synchrnozation, but only for contact, calender entries and... umm i
think notes.. but not messages.

I further wonder why the service providors don't allow for messages to
automatically be forwarded to an email (though they do allow for email
to be forwared to a phone). All I can see on a statment is the date and
time and charge for the message but not the message itself.

Of course a SIM card is capable of storing SMS messages (unless the operator
has screwed the configuration to 0 SMS messages, but with proper tools you
could change that configuration). New USIMs have further capabilities like
multiple numbers per name.

Unfortunately I do not know a solution to the OP's question. Perhaps using
PC Suite and transferring messages via a PC to another phone but I assume a
simpler approach was expected.
