Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to swap between 3G and GPRS on a Nokia N80?
I have an application that seems to work fine over GPRS but does not
work over 3G.
I found this as at work I have no 3G coverage so it defaults back to
GPRS and works fine, however at home I have good 3G coverage and the
application will not connect, so I would like to be able to switch back
to GPRS when I am in a 3G area.
The application in question is the Sky Anytime Mobile which isn't
supported in the Nokia N80, however it will work using the Sony
Ericsson java file. I wonder if they can detect your handset via 3G
but not using GPRS?? Just a thought!
Many thanks!
Just

Is your phone operator branded? If not, then (at least) you can select "GSM
only" from the phone's settings.
If the application was using wap, the phone model would be known in both
cases (3G or GSM). I guess it is using internet access, perhaps then a
network issue of not supporting multiple access points simultaneously. Do
you have other applications in use at the same time? Perhaps this Sky
Anytime is using multiple connections. Just a guess of course.

Yes, it was bought from and running on 3. Does that mean I cannot
select GSM only? I had a quick look through the menus but couldn't
find the option for GSM Only, can you point me in the direction?

Tools/Settings/Network/Network mode:
Dual mode is basically 3G, and you have UMTS and GSM option.

Definitely not on a phone from 3.
