I've no idea on that, it isn't annoying to me though.

And it can be disabled. Personally, I never turn mine off so it's not a problem.

I did a some research on the net and found some software that
supposedly does it. Can anyone confirm?

If you are referring to changing the startup tone, then nothing is capable
of changing it at the moment. Until someone deciphers DCT4 flash files, so
that we don't ned FIA's to flash them, then there will be no progress in
this area. The only realistic way to achieve a custom startup tone, would
be to create a custom flash file (or hope that Nokia implement it, which is
very doubtful.) which (for the reasons detailed above) is at present
impossible.
