I have a Nokia 6310i with firmware version 4.07.
I am now intending to use the bluetooth features of this in conjunction with
an Ipaq 5450 and also my laptop so that I can use as a wireless GPRS modem.
I know there are some tweaks needed for GPRS.
My main problem is that I CANNOT get any services connected to the phone.
Firstly I am trying from Laptop with Bluetooth adapter. I can see the phone
as a discoverable device and I can pair with it. However, when pairing, I
type in passcode on phone and then get 'Device not avaialble' and although
the phone shows as paired both on it and the PC I cannot connect to any
services at all.
Intending to buy a HP Ipaq 5450 I also tried this in the shop but get the
same problem when connecting to Ipaq. Originally I though it must be
Bluetooth USB adapter on laptop but now I think it could be phone.
A friend of mine says his firmware version is 5.5 whilst mine is 4.07. Could
this be a problem. I have not been able to try the combination with his
phone and he is not using bluetooth so cannot confirm if his phone works in
same setup.
I have seen many articles on the net that state that Ipaq/6310i combination
works fine.
Any help and advice would be most welcome as I obviously don't want to spend
£500 on the ipaq until I knwo I can use with the phone.
Thanks
Mick

1) Get latest software update.
2) Report back if still having problems.

Re: Bluetooth problems with 6310i?
Hi,
Call 08700 555777 to find out the location of your nearest service
centre and they will happily upgrade your firmware. Hope this helps. I am
getting a Ipaq 5550 tomorrow and using it for the same as you, so I hope it
all sets up OK! LOL
Cheers,
Martin

Call club nokia careline, or check the nokia website (or you could always
try one of the dodgy little shops that offer unlocking and stuff, they may
be able to upgrade firmware), Carphone warehouse shops are usually nokia
service centres. You *need* firmware version 5.50 for Bluetooth to work well
with the 6310i and non-nokia authorised/made BT devices, I had limited
success with v5.22 firmware but it was flaky at best. Expect to pay if the
phone is out of warrantee though.

Re: Bluetooth problems with 6310i?
Martin,
My friend has V5.5 and I am heading over shortly to check his phone with my
laptop and BT USB dongle. Hopefuly that will prove it. I will then hop over
to Carphone Warehouse in Coventry to get my phone flashed if possible.
Failing that I'll buy a newer one.
Then will go get the 5550.
I will let you know how I get on and be grateful if you do likewise. Also
how I get on with WiFi connection to my existing combination of cabled and
wireless network.
What firmaware version have you got on your 6310i? Type *#0000# if you don't
know how to find it.
Regards
Mick

Re: Bluetooth problems with 6310i?
Well, I tried my mates 6310i with V5.5 firmware and it works a dream with my
laptop and Widcomm USB Blutooth Dongle. So must be the fact my phone only
has V4.07 on it.
Next step was to head over to Carphone Warehouse to see if I could get my
phone updated. Yes, they can do it but I would have to leave it with them
for 2 days!! What a crap service. What the hell are they like if you need
something major doing to your phone?
Anyway, can't do without the phone for two days so looks like I am going to
scout for leads and software and perform this operation myself. Would
appreciate any pointers in direction of correct leads, software and method.
Thanks
Mick

Re: Bluetooth problems with 6310i?
I had similar problems with my old 6310i which was v5.12 or something.
I just got a new 6310i from voda for free (upgrade after a year) to replace
the old one. The old one was looking shabby and had seen too much action.
v5.50 on the new one and BT works fine now. Took them 2 days to deliver.
Nokia content copier to do a straight swap of data.
Couldn't be happier now.
