Since upgrading from a 6310i to a 7250i (but that could be co-incidence)
I've begun to notice something strange occasionally when receiving an SMS
    message...

Usually it's perfectly fine, but occasionally I'll receive notification of a
new message arriving (as normal). I read the message, part of the way
through the message it will say "*some text missing*" and, obviously, has
some of the message missing. It may then continue with the rest of the
    message.

The message will stay like this. A minute or two later the message will
arrive again and the full message is there. Obviously it has been sent again
    at some point.

Anyone know if this is because the original text message wasn't sent
correctly from the sender the first time, or because I didn't receive it
correctly the first time? Or could it be either?

This has happened me too occasionally..
I put it down to dodgy network traffic
(nothing to do with the handset)
Sometimes I don't get the complete message at all

It's a concatenated text message but one or more parts haven't yet arrived.
You get the notification again once the rest of the message arrives (and
you've already read the other bit).

Concatenated text messages are still sent across the network as ordinary
text messages but they contain embedded links to one another. If you're
phone supports them then it joins them up. If it not supported then they
    appear as individual messages.

Aye, I thought of that at first, but what I'm talking about isn't that.
These are short messages (80 chars or so) and the missing bit is in the
middle of the text message, not at the end.

It's strange that the phone would add the "*some text missing*" message when
it's not a concatenated text message. The phone is aware that each message
received is part of a larger message by the links within the message.
    Bizzare!

This has happened to me a few times with my 6610, but only when I read the
message as soon as it arrives. If I close the problem text and then go into
my message inbox to read it, all of it is there.

It's as if the arrival of a new message is sort of a preview of the whole
    thing.... perhaps!?

When this happens on my phone it is usually a concentrated message of 3 and
if I only get the 1st and 3rd parts then I get the above error as you have
    mentioned.

Yeah, someone else said that too. But these are not concatenated messages.
This has occurred in a message that was under 50 characters long (one single
message), and the missing text was just under 3 words roughly in the middle
of the text. The problem does seem to resolve itself. When this happens I
get a new text message alert a minute or two later, and an extra copy of the
text message is there - complete this time. The old one with text missing is
    also still there.
