It's WAP and XHTML, which is not quite the same as the regular web.

For an XHTML site example, try http://mobile.lonelyplanet.com

You CAN of course access the normal web (cnn.com and everything else) but for
this you need to install a proper web browser, such as Opera. (www.opera.com).
It's kind of a big application though, installing it works best through the
Nokia PC Suite or the installer may run out of memory.. The latest update
(6.01 ?) works a lot better in that it doesn't run out of memory as often.

Keep in mind that regular websites take LOTS and LOTS of kilobytes to
download, even when you turn off images. WAP and XHTML is a lot more
efficient (cheaper). I find myself using Yahoo and BBC's wap sites more often
    then the real web.

Umm... this is a bit misleading.

XHTML is simply a modern markup language - an XML-compatible reformulation
of HTML - that can be used to create sites accessible to all different
platforms and devices. The screen resolution is irrelevant.

Much of the 'regular' web is XHTML (or a close approximation thereof) these
    days.

WAP is different - pages are coded in WML which is a different langauge
altogether, and exclusive to the WAprotocol.

The reason newer phones are supporting XHTML is to enable a more integrated
web - where one site can be accessible to both standard browsers AND mobile
phones (and indeed printers, screen readers for the blind, audio devices
    etc.)
