Hi,
I have a Nokia 8290 phone that was previously on a Cingular network in
Southern California. I was wondering if I could use it with AT&T's
network. I understand that AT&T Wireless now has a GSM/GPRS network
that requires phones to have SIM cards.
So could I simply take the SIM card out of an AT&T phone and put it
into the Nokia 8290? Will unlocking the 8290 make it work? Or will
this never work?
Thanks,
Ken

Yes, if you get it unlocked.

It will work for voice and SMS but not any sort of modem connectivity
application- the 8290 doesn't support GPRS, and AT&T doesn't support
CSD (9.6kbps data connections supported by the 8290.)

Providing that ATTWS is not using GSM 850 in your area and you understand
that you will not be able to use then phone in any ATTWS areas that are GSM
850.

Re: Will Nokia 8290 work with AT&T's new GSM/GPRS network?
May be off subject but my phone was stolen and when i reported it to AT&T
they deactivated it and if I don't reactivate it in 30 days they will
terminate my contract and bill me $175. I thought that I might get a cheap
phone on EBAY and have it activated but AT&T sez NO they will not activate
any phone except one purchased from AT&T. Can that be right, how are all the
phones sold on EBAY?
