Kudos go out to Cingular

Don't know whether anyone has seen this new piece of marketing by Cingular
.... but it's pretty sweet ... Seems like something the rest of the wireless

phone itself has some method to turn off the forwarding also. If not,

I wonder how many people will unexpectedly see a HUGE increase in their
minute usage the first month they use it...

GTE Mobilnet was doing this back in 1993. My first cell phone was a GTE Tele-
Go phone, a specially-modified Oki 1325 analog handset that did exactly what
the FastForward service does.

That having been said, it *is* a good idea, one I wish GTE wouldn't have
gotten rid of.

Southwestern Bell and GTE offered a neat product from around
1993 to 1997. It was a modified cell/cordless phone. If you were in
range of your base station (about 200 feet), the phone acted as
a regualr cordless phone. Out of range of your base station, it
was a cellphone at something like 30 cents a minute.

Ummm... You just described GTE's Tele-Go product. That's what Tele-Go
was. They started out offering Oki 1325s and later offered Nokia 100s and
one other model.

It's essentially the same thing as FastForward.

Don't they also have to be the local wireline provider for that to work?
