This isnt about PCS but I'm looking for some help. Sprint is my local
telephone company. I signed up in October 2002 for one year contract of DSL
service. Sprint sent me the modem. The service was fine. In October 2003 I
elected to switch to cable modem from Cox. I had my cable modem turned on
    October 11 2003. I called Sprint Local
and advised them to terminate my service. They said I was contracted till
October 29 2003. I said ok, turn off my service and I'll pay the final bill.
    I asked about the modem
and they said I would receive a pre-paid mailing label to return the modem.
They said put it in a box and drop off at Post Office. I never received the
label and wondered if they even wanted the modem back

I got my November bill and saw a charge for the DSL service. I called Sprint
and said what is the charge for I cancelled the DSL service and told them I
never received the return label. They said they had no record of my call. I
told them that's impossible. The representative gave me specific
instructions about the modem return. They refused to give me a credit for
the month. I told them I could supply proof as to when my cable modem went
    online.

There is no way to deal with these people. They have me over a barrel
because If I refuse to pay they will terminate my local telephone service
and I would lose my number. I
would then have to call my credit card companies because they verify renewal
    cards by using caller ID.

They also will charge me for modem if they don't receive it. I'm afraid if I
sent it back using their pre-paid label they could say they never got it. It
is a total joke dealing with these people. If you ever watched Crank Yankers
on Comedy Central and you saw the call with Willie the Supervisor you would
know how it is to deal with Sprint on the phone

When you have problems like this with a landline provider, the easiest and
quickest way to get them fixed is to file a complaint with your state's
utility regulators. I know that SBC jumped into action after screwing me
over on two months of DSL and voice service that they weren't reliably
providing; they only offered to credit me $5 and I had well over $150 of
unusable services that they billed me for. In my case, I had to talk to the
Ohio Public Utilities Commission; within a few days a nice lady e-mailed me
saying she had been assigned the case, and within a week or two SBC agreed
to give me all of the credits they owed me.

No, they don't. Phone companies, or at least the landline divisions thereof,
play these games. You don't have to deal with them.

A letter to your State's Attorney general with a certified copy to Sprint
    should work wonders.

    If it gets to that.

Shouldn't even need to go that far with landlines. Unlike wireless, where
in some states it's a regulated service and in others (like Ohio) it's not,
wireline phone service is regulated in all 50 states.

I'm not saying a complaint to the AG is a bad idea, but the state utility
regulators are specifically set up to deal with complaints about regulated
utilities. Try them first; they can probably solve your problem a lot more
    quickly.
