In the past my wife and I had shared a single cell phone, it was in my name.
Our year-long contract expired several months ago. We recently found out
that Sprint offers a 25% discount for healthcare employees. Being that my
wife is an RN, we decided to have the account switched over to her name so
we could get the 25% discount. We also decided to add a second line/phone.
My wife kept the old number and just upgraded to a new phone (Sanyo 8100), I
got the new line/number and a new phone (Samsung A620). Problem is that now
when I call someone, the caller ID displays my wife's name instead of mine.
Is there a way for Sprint to assign multiple names to multiple
lines/numbers? I use my cell phone for alot of business calls, and I
require that my name is displayed, not my wifes. If I switch the account
back into my name, then we will loose our 25% discount, as my company gets
no discount. Is there any way to leave the account in my wifes name, yet
still have my name on my line/number for caller ID purposes.
    any thoughts?

I believe that was called "Changing authorized user" when we did that a =
    couple of years ago.
It made no change at all to the underlying account,
but merely altered the user's name associated with one of our phones.
Call *2 and ask about it.

Yes. Customer service can do it, but many of the representatives
    don't know how.

Therefore, it may take repeated tries. But don't get discouraged, and
don't let them talk you out of it.

I currently have a two phone account as well, however neither one of our
phones display any name when calling other now. Before they used to both
display the account holders name, but now just the number. CS told me it is
not availed in all areas, however it used to work here. Did I just get a
    bad CS rep?

Any info on this topic would be helpful.

That seems pretty stupid of SBC. I know when I had a land-line I dropped
the caller-id service because it was about $9/month and we were lucky to get
a number on the call-id, let alone a name and number. What a waste.

As I interpreted the information I got from SBC,
it seems they wanted to be paid by the cellular companies
to deliver the callers' names along with their numbers.

That seems like double-dipping, to me.
As the subscriber, I'm already paying SBC to deliver those names to me.
I don't agree that the cellular companies should *also* pay SBC for =
    that.

I have had something like this done, but it took a couple of tries to
fianlly get the caller id name right--had to go into the store to get
    it done.

by the way, how did you find out about the discount to health
    employees--was is
    an internet offer or what?

Nope, just call a talk to a CSR, tell them that you are entitled to a
discount on your bill through your company. They will transfer you to the
business division. They will ask for your company's name, your supervisor,
and their telephone #, in order to verify your employment. Your billling
will now be handled by the business division of Sprint. You will know this
has taken effect when they give you a new acct. # and a new billing cycle
(your monthly billing day will change). This may take a couple billing
cycles for your discount to show up, but it does work.
Sprint offers a 25% discount to just about any employee of the health care

That may actually be a different issue, Rick. From time to time, the
contracts expire between cell phone companies and wireline companies to
exchange the name info for caller ID (no, it's not a free service; phone
companies charge each other on a per-call basis to exchange this
information). When these contracts expire, inevitably the wireline
company will try to negotiate rates that are more favorable to them to
pass this name info along, and if the cell company doesn't go along with
it, the wireline company will simply stop querying for the name data
    until the cell company acquiesces.

Verizon is notorious for doing this, as is SBC.

If I recall the firestorm this raised correctly, it's also=20
improper, if not illegal. Inform your landline company=20
that you will be reporting this to the state board in=20
charge of telecom. And then do it.

You've got a lot of answers already, and I haven't read
them, so I apologize if I'm repeating what you've already
    been told.

There is no need whatsoever to put each phone in a separate
account if you don't want it. Caller ID is established in
our system by an identity called the "Authorized User." If
you want to change what Caller ID says when you call, just
get through to us at *2 and we can swap that Authorized
User. Takes about 72 hours once we set it up.

Actually, I called *2 shortly after posting the above. The CSR told me that
she could do it easily. After typing for a bit, she told me it was
completed and that it would take 20 to 30 minutes for it to take effect. As
of right now, it still has not taken effect. When I log in to sprints
website and access the account, it now displays the proper name. I guess I
will wait 72 hours and then recheck.

When she completed the above, I also asked her about a PRL update, since my
phone was/is at XXX20, one update behind. I asked the CSR if she would flag
my account for an update. Afte some typeing, she told me for some reason,
my account wouldn't allow her to do an OTA update. She told me I would have
to go to my local sprint store for the update.
    oh well.

    thanks for the info.
