How are you using this service for free? I checked their different
subscription options, and the cheapest they offer is $9.95 for a year, can
    make up to 100 calls.
    Am I missing something?

Infone works pretty well. Check out their history on the Infone page.
Apparently they are a huge provider for other carriers 411 service who
wanted to provide more than just number lookup. Cellular providers
only wanted simple number lookups and then their cut, so Infone
bypassed the carriers and offers cheaper directory assistance and
    concierge type, personal services.

Only problem is to set up CC billing. Requiring credit approval and
using mothers maiden name at first seeems too intrusive for a phone
info service, but they offer much more. Any password will work instead
    of maiden name though.

It's a little late, but you did get the 5 free calls as an intro
special right? I signed up with a coupon code inside a Bank of America
credit card statement and got 10 calls free!

Infone is the perfect "go for" service, where a cell phone user needs
someone with access to multiple databases for directions, number
look-ups, flight times, reservations etc, whatever, and will they take
the time to get that info, in a personalized way. It seems having your
credit card info allows Infone to act more like a personal agent in
complicated phone requests requiring ID verification or financial
    responsibility.

Reminded of a friend who calls, asking me for directions or to lookup
the address of some destination, when she's lost in the city. It sure
is handy to have someone with net access to do one's bidding while
    travelling mobile.

The first attempt for Infone to find a local number listing for an
800#, which was blocked in my area, was not successful, but that's an
unusual lookup. They did offer to dial the number for me and wait on
the line until the call was connected. It worked, but I should have
kept them on the line for a second related request.

It's cheaper and more efficient to plan for and take advantage of
multiple requests with one call, but don't remember the specific
    rules.

This service has got to be the killer app for the traveler in a
    strange city.
Calls to Infone start with either voice recognition or PIN ID
    verification, along with caller ID.

Getting charged incorrectly for 800# Tellme calls also happened to
Verizon customers, until they got straightened out. Carriers don't
like the competition to their very lucrative directory assistance
    services.

Just looked up the multiple request question. It appears one session
lasts for up to 15 minutes, and pressing * keeps getting you back to
    an operator. Nice!

Will have to remember to request address lookups e-mailed to my phone.
A lot easier than having to write it down!

Don't forget the free, 511 road/traffic/public transportation system
that's rolling out too. The most advanced, Travinfo voice recognition
system is currently available in the SF Bay Area, CA.

It does appear to be a pay service.

Actually the reason callers were getting incorrectly billed for calls to
800-555-xxxx numbers (There is just more than tellme on the 800-555 exchange
nowdays) were the translation tables in the telco billing systems were
always told to charge for 555-XXXX numbers no matter what the area code.
This theoretically changed as TF numbers took up in popularity over the
    years

    from: http://www.611.net/NETWORKTELECOM/555numbs.htm
Originally, 800-555 numbers were set aside for Directory Assistance services
only. For years, the only active 800-555 number was AT&T's 1-800-555-1212
Directory Assistance number. A handful of 1-800-555 numbers (approximately
13 numbers) were set aside as "dummy numbers" for use in TV shows and
movies. Otherwise, most of the 8,000 toll-free 1-800-555 numbers were
blocked from use or assignment until December 1994.
19 months after toll-free "number portability" went into effect in May 1993,
    on December 15, 1994, the F.C.C. released 800-555-xxxx toll-free numbers for
"general assignment." General Assignment means these numbers are
classified for use just like any other toll-free number, and are not just
limited to telephone company directory assistance. Since the vast majority
    of the 8,000 toll-free 1-800-555 numbers were blocked from 1967 to 1994,
this ruling opened up a powerful block of easy-to-remember, easy-to-dial 800
numbers for use by businesses and non-profit organizations.

ATT pulled the plug on 1-800-555-1212 in March of 2000, so even *that*
number isn't used for DA any longer.

I definatly hear you on high 411 charges...its crazy. Infone is one service but I have found another service you might want to hear about. I only get charged .65 cents per call and its the same type of deal no sign up fees or any of that stuff. The company is easy411. Its the same deal with the credit card. only cheaper!

At $1.25 per Information Call, Sprint PCS has set a nice high ceiling
allowing for others to enter the information market and do nicely.

There's always the option, on Vision phones, of using go2.com. A=20
great directory site, and it's even coded to let you dial the number=20
    right from the page.

I thought that 411saver only provided corporate 411? Can you use it on wireless phones as well? What other options does it offer to you?

Have you ever tried easy411? That is the service I am using now. I find it to be really useful and saves a lot of time and money.
