Hello All,
Couple of dumb questions here for a current Sanyo 4700 user and
definite cellular neophyte. I have been looking at the RL2500 because
I need a new phone and I want speakerphone capabilities. The RL2500
sounds good but I have a couple of questions:
1) Is it true that the RL2500 does not support SMS text messaging?
My boss wants to start using text messaging and if the RL2500 doesn't
offer it then the RL2500 probably won't work out.
2) I have heard that the 4900 only had a half duplex speakerphone.
Does the RL2500 also only have a half duplex speakerphone? If so,
does it really make a difference? Would a full-duplex perform much
better?
3) Does anybody have experience going from the 4700 to the RL2500?
Is the reception any better. I live in an area with spotty coverage
(Scottsdale, AZ)and I'm wondering if the RL2500 will improve it.
Thanks in advance,
John

No, but it's bigger brother, the Sanyo 5500 (also called the VM4500 by
Sprint), does.

Half-duplex is all that's available, I'm afraid. I initially thought
the 5400 and 5500 had full-duplex speakerphones, but I was wrong.
Yes, it makes a difference. If you're on the speakerphone, if both you
and the other party are talking at the same time, he won't hear you.

I've found the reception on the 5500 to be about the same or slightly
better than the 4900.

cannot advise on the sms thing;
On the other questions, I have had all of these phones, and except for
a shorter talk time due to the small oem battery of the 5400 this
phone is a slightly better performing phone than the 4700. The
speaker works just like the 4700 for a regular phone call, but is half
duplex with push to talk, by definition (duh)---both internal and
external speakers are as loud or louder than both the 4700 and
4900-----thre are of course variations in the species on all these, I
by accident bought a used beat all to hexx 4900 which in a fringe area
works better than any of them--
I only wish I could get it in a color other than silver, which I
understand will occur with the headvy duty model to be released later
this spring.
Hope this helps.

Not yet on sms but rumor has it that they are testing a firmware
release that will allow sms. Shortmail still works in the mean time.

Re: Sanyo RL2500 SPC-5400 Phone
I have an RL2500, and it does have full-duplex speakerphone (meaning you can
both hear and speak through it) Not sure about your other 2 questions.
