Is there a difference between the different USB data cables available
(specifically miniSync, SupplyNet & those others sold on eBay)??? Is there
an advantage of one over the others?
Will they all get 144 kbps via Vision? Is SnapSync or DataPilot required to
use as a modem and to reach those speeds or do I just need the drivers for
the cable?

The only difference I'm aware of is that some cables allow the phone
to be charged from the PC's USB port.

Yes, although 144 kbps is the *peak* speed. Sustained throughput speed
is more like 110 kbps.

No software required other than the freely available USB driver.

probably will get different opinions, but it's just a cable; the only
difference I have noticed is that some of them provide a charge to the
phone from the laptop; this has not been that big a deal with the
newer 5400/5500 phones, but when I useed the 4900, the battery life
was very short without the charging cable. I have seen arguments that
the charger cable is to be e avoided, but I used one for over a
year---the data portion of it finally failed (i suspect a bad
connector, used it a lot) and I have since used a non charger
cable---either the drivers will work, ot the sprint software, which I
believe is still on their web page, once you log on.

The cable sold at Radio Shack and from FutureDail website will not
power your phone. Look at www.gomatic.com for a data/charger cable.

I rarely get better than 50 or 60 KBps, but then I'm almost five miles
from the nearest tower. Even though pulling out the antenna may or may
not increase the number of signal bars (of the RECEIVED tower signal),
it certainly increases my speed. With one or no signal bars, I often get
network timeout errors, with one or two bars the pages load slow, with
two or three its much faster.
You can use the Windows dialup connection wizard to create a dialer
(called a connectoid) using your Vision user name and #7777 as the
number to dial.
