I recently bought the 4050, and first let me say that I really like
the phone. It has all the features that I want, and the screen is
amazing (one friend said it looks like you have a plasma screen on
that phone). However, I'm having a big problem with dropped/lost
calls. I wanted to find out if this was something due to Sprint's
coverage or if someone else had the same problems with this phone.

    Here are the facts:
    - I primarily use the phone in NJ (Nort and Central)
    - My parents have the VI660 and they have some connectivity issues as
    well
    - I have set the phone to Automatic with regard to PCS vs Analog
    - My reception seems to hang up and drop more when I am closer to home
    - I never really have empty tower display, I generally have at least
    one bar

Is there anyone else that can confirm a problem with coverage in NJ or
a problem with the VM4050? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Are these dropped calls happening in low populated areas? Might be that you
might be in a fringe area of coverage. You can call SPCS and ask to open up
a trouble ticket, on those areas that you continually drop calls in. You
will need to provide some details like the time of day you tried calling,
and the location of those calls, preferably an address or cross streets.

As to the phone itself, it's pretty new and I don't know whether any newer
firmware/software is available for the phone. You can check this URL to see
if you have the most current version for your phone model -
    http://www.sprintpcsinfo.com/modules...showpage&pid=9

One last thing to think about is whether you want to add the F&CA (Free &
Clear America) option to your account. For those in SPCS corporate coverage
areas, the extra cost is $5/mo. and you can use 50% of your monthly minutes
used to roam if needed. Check your plan on line and see if it's offered as
    an additional service.

I just traded my toshiba in for the sanyo. My reception is 3x better.
I constantly have 3 bars as opposed to the 1 I used to have. I can
now use the phone downstairs as well as upstairs (before it was just
downstairs). I switched phones after talking to the guys at the
Sprint store. They said that Sanyo is made specifically for sprint,
while the toshiba isn't. They said that the sanyo will pick up some
sprint towers that the toshiba won't. Hope that helps anyone else.
(FYI I live in an highly populated suburb area 5-10 minutes away from
the crossing of 2 major highways in NJ).

Good to hear that a change of handsets made a difference. Keep that url I
previously listed as a favorite, so that you can check on it every now and
then to see if new firmware versions are available for your phone.
