I just got a Sanyo 8100, and on my new Vision plan I'm supposed to get 100
SMS text messages a month.
So what I want to know is: what's the difference between a Short Mail and a
Notification? I've used one of the upload services to upload wallpaper to my
phone, and it sent Notifications to tell me where to download from. I
remember seeing a message that said for the time being I could receive
unlimited Notifications, but I think it was the introductory mail on my
phone and I erased it.
So can someone explain the difference to me, and tell me if I was correct in
what I saw about unlimited Notifications?

i have a 8100 too,
and although i'm just guessing, since i've only had this
thing for 3 days...
i think a short mail is something (psuedo-email) sent from
another 8100 (?) that you know... like a wife or such...
while a notification comes from sprint...?
pcs mail...is ??? normal email...
i just sent myself one from my 'bigbox' and
apparently...!!!...it didn't notify me when it came in to my
phone...!!!... so you'd have to manually check that from
time to time...
also... apparently i'm already getting spam.
sproogles...

No, it's text message from any SPCS phone, not just an 8100.

It can come from anywhere. SPCS, Yahoo, MSN, AOL, or any other service you
might set up with anyone else.

Unfortunately, SPCS hasn't installed any Spam filtering software on their
email server. Best thing to do is change your settings so that you don't get
email notifications on your SPCS phone.

Returning to my original question, tho, do Notifications count against my
allotment of 100 text messages per month with the standard Vision packs?

From what I understand, it all depends on when you signed up with the Vision
option. For yours truly, it's unlimited. You might want to call CS and see
what they say.
