I agree that this phone is way overpriced. If I have a Treo 600 all
I'm getting for $600 is a blue-tooth earphone, a few more buttons that
don't really do much for you additional, a higher resolution screen.
(oh boy!), a 640x 480 camera which wouldn't impress anyone.

The Treo650 has no more memory than the 600. Why would I want to
spend $600 for so few additional features. (Even if I can sell the old
Treo on Ebay.) Doesn't make marketing sense.

Also I recall that when I bought my Treo 600 it cost about $489 with
the Treo300 upgrade price. Why is this unit which gives you much less
of a "bump up" in functionality so much more?

What would I pay $600 for. A PDA with at least 128mb of ram, 3mp
digital camera and probably a few other things too.
Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

This phone is not [yet] targetted at you. If you have a 600, you have
90% of the functionality of the 650. They don't want to sell that phone
to you. They want to sell it to the guy who DOESN'T yet have a Treo
    600. Well actually, first they'll sell scads of them to the folks who
absolutlely have to have the latest, most powerful phone. I'm glad I
    don't have *THAT* addiction!

When they've exhausted those markets, the price of the phone will come
down, and perhaps you'll be interested.

    I've got a 600, and I know I'm not particularly interested in the 650.
I advised a friend, who had just become aware of what a Palm/phone could
do, to purchase the 600 -- which can be had for $350 at Fry's or $370 at
    Amazon.com.

I got mine in February at Amazon.com, and paid only $250 (with a 2 year
    SPCS contract).

    I don't.

    A Tungsten T3 costs $399.

A decent VGA camera phone? $249.99

The two of them together runs $648.99. Or I can save $50 and get a Treo
650 which combines the best of both worlds into one device. That's one
less device I have to track down, carry charging cables with me, store
on my belt on in a coat pocket, etc. The added convenience to me is
well worth the $50 less I have to pay.

If you're coming from the perspective of someone who has a Treo 600,
then you're right, it's probably not worth it to upgrade. But for those
of us who liked the Treo 600 but didn't buy it because it lacked
bluetooth, lacked NV memory, and lacked a high res screen among other
things that the new model now has, then the 650 hits the spot.

I passed on the 600 because of the above shortcomings. The 650 answers
all of my requirements now, so I've preordered it.

From what I can tell, PalmOne doesn't see immediate discontinuation of
the 600. In fact, Verizon is still offering it for sale and will for
the forseeable future (for $50 less than the 650, I might add). It
seems more to me like PalmOne is updating the Treo line for those of us
who wanted more features. And they did it.

The PPC6601 is $665 through Sprint business channels.

    To each his own *shrug*.
