I have a Sanyo 8100 with an extra battery. Is there some way to change the
battery out while talking? I thought maybe having the phone charger plugged
in would work but it didn't. I don't think the desktop charger will be of
any help.
Do any of the Sprint phones have this capability?
Thanks,
Brett

No, it's not possible
Ask me about Sprint and Verizon

You've got to be kidding right? How could you possibly be on the phone SO
much that it is actually a problem that you need to change batteries while
talking OFTEN?

Let's see... You go to bed, put your phone on the nightstand,
and when you wake up it's almost dead. You don't realize it
until you're 5 minutes into your next phone call.
Not that farfetched.
But, as far as changing batteries while talking, still impossible!

I suppose that could happen once in a blue moon if one goes to bed
drunk. Normally the phone goes in the charger that's on the nightstand.

Most phones I have used, granted not all will allow this, you can charge
the phone while using it. In this case to swap the battery you have to
have a fully charged battery to swap with it so forgetting to charge a
battery is obviously not his problem. I have been on conversations with
my cell that has gone on for hours but never have I been in one where I
was constantly moving and away from a power source, I have a
powerstrip/12volt charger in my car. Even if he can't plug his phone into
a power source it is possible to simply ask the remote party for a short
break so you can swap the battery. If this is not an option and you refuse
to plug it in while talking then give up and get a land line phone.
I do a lot of important business on my cellphone and the remote party
would rather me politely excuse myself for a moment (esp after a long
call) then to rudely disconnect when my power runs out. After all we are
all talking to real people they have the ability to understand.

That's the scenario I always find myself in. It would be nice to plug the
phone in for charging and be able to swap out batteries. Guess that's still
down the road technically. Although laptop computers are a good example.

Interestingly, my Motorola AMPS phone from ten-years-ago would let you
change batteries in-call (without a power-adapter attached). You only
had around 3 seconds to make the swap, but it could be done. But IIRC,
swapping the battery was about the only option to keep the call going.
If you plugged in a power cable--during a call or not--the phone
power-cycled (I remember this behavior from nearly all my early moto
cell phones, and it was a PITA).
OTOH, it is kind of odd that my Sanyo phones won't work at all without a
battery installed.

The reason for that was because your phone had it's own capacitors(large)
that were charged from the battery that feed your phone. This increased
the size and weight of the phone, the power supply design in general that
is. Our current slim/small phones use the battery as a means to
regulate/condition the flow of power and use very small capacitors cutting
down the amount of circuitry for feeding the phone conditioned power from
the battery. Granted the charging circuit for the battery is more
complicated but we are talking about from the battery to the phone. Due to
the smaller capacitors and a simpler power supply design the phone
requires the battery to be connected for it to function. This is why you
can't remove the battery while plugged into the wall.

Re: Changing batteries while talking?
In 1998, when I first had Sprint, I had a Motorola Timeport. As long as
you had the phone plugged in with the charger, you can swap batteries. But
I don't know anybody that even has that phone anymore.. that phone was
still on the "Wireless Web" "2G network".. You could even talk on the
phone while it's plugged in with the charger without a battery! If you
would check the battery level (FCN-4) it would say "Externally Powered" I
think Motorola is the only company that made phones that you can swap
batteries out with the phone plugged in the wall!

Yep - I use to have one of those phones.
