phone recommendation?

Sorry I am unable to help you with the phone selection since I
personally just got the Samsung A740 recently and it is very small.

But I have a question regarding shuffling. I was thinking exactly along
those line when I upgraded recently , adding a new line of service for
my son. And since that is a new line, it is eligible for the instant
rebate. Mine being an upgrade would have to wait for the mail-in
rebate. According to the tele CSR, it is possible to swap phones (mom's
with kid's phone)but to do it only after 3 months. The store people ,
however, were more negative regarding the swap and discouraging it.

Any take on this? Since you can get the more expensive phone with the
instant rebate for the new line and a cheaper phone for the upgrade then
swap phones for the 2 lines.

Anyone know which phones Costco is offering, or does it vary too

I am looking to return to sprint after a brief stay with T-Mobile. I
looked at the phone page, but there are a lot of options there to
choose from. I'm looking to buy where price point meets features. I
don't need the latest thing out, but I like features. My last Spint
phone was a Samsung and I like that interface. I don't want to use the
Nextel service.

Does anybody have any recommendations?

Glad you piped in first Notan. I was going to say AHHHHHHHHHHHHGGGG! Oh ...
wait a minute ... I just did. No price level mentioned, and no preferences
on any features i.e.: speakerphone, taking pics, multimedia, limited
bluetooth capability, SMS ... nothing.

To the original OP, try to define what YOUR needs will be, and what price
YOU want to pay for the phone. What options do YOU want on your plan, i.e.:
Vision, just SMS, MM ... and then go from there.

Speakerphone is a bonus. Price should be roughly $200.

I guess what I was really asking in my original post was which phone
has a reputation for being a solid phone? Cell features like camera
and multimedia are somewhat ubiquitous now. When I was with sprint
previously, I had the Samsung A500 which, for me, was a solid
performer. I had friends with other models (forgive me I forget which)
however who had nothing but problems.

So, 1.) Are there any phone I should avoid based on the collective
knowledge of alt.cellular.sprintpcs? ie, phones that are known to be
problematic, break easily, etc..

2.) Are there any phones that meet these basic criteria [camera,
vision capable] that have reputations as being problem free that people
really like?

A point of order here Dan. It was you that didn't provide any useful input
in the first place. As you now have put in some parameters, I'm sure that
some folks will pipe in. I won't, as I'm still using Sanyo phones which are
no longer sold by SPCS, and wouldn't have any personal knowledge of the
current models.

I will say though that most Sanyo models have received excellent reps, now
and in the past. Some folks have mentioned that a couple of the current
Sanyos sold do not have the capability to tether to the laptop, but I don't
know which models.

numbered phones, you might then look up these models on
www.phonescoop.com (enter the model number in the "Jump to a phone" box)
and read the User Reviews.

If you like Samsungs, the Samsung 840 looks like a good one right now.
It replaces the 680 (mine) and the 740 (I have friends who like it).
Also Sanyo 8300.

I'm currently using a Samsung A840, which replaces an A500.
For me size is high on the priority list, with basic phone
functions following. I don't need silly ringers, screen
savers (Who the hell watches a cell phone screen saver,
anyway? <g>), etc.

Personally, I like Samsungs over Sanyos. While, by all counts,
Sanyo makes an excellent phone, I'm not too fond of their speed
dial system. Unlike Samsungs, Sanyos only give the user the
option of speed dial locations of 1-9 (or 0-9).

The *best* way to evaluate phones' pluses and minuses, is to
go down to a Sprint store, play around with them for a while,
then buy one. If, after getting it home, you decide that there
are features that you don't like, aren't features that you do
like, reception isn't good, etc., you've got 14 days to return
it and try another. I did this a number of times, before
deciding on the A840.

I was told by Sprint that the Sanyo was better. The software was made
specifically for Sprint phones.

They're NOT? I thought I just SAW two fairly new models out from
Sanyo? maybe I'm Misremembering. My Sanyo 8200 is showing it's age.
Maybe I should go out and buy another? or a 8300 before they disappear?

at least in MY neck of the woods, samsung models don't hold a signal
NEARLY as well as the Sanyo Models do.
