All pcs phones, here in my area of florida, are having an issue which i have
now 5 service tickets on. The problems is in receiving calls. I have 4 phones
on my account. if i call any of my phones or any pcs phone at the pcs store
on display, from a land line or from any wireless line. the calling phone
rings 5 times before any of the pcs phones ring once. I keep opening tickets
as fast as they close them. My wife works in tampa(100 miles away) when i
call her pcs number when shes in tampa she gets 2 to 1 ring. The later is ok
by me but 5 rings and i lose business. People have said they've called and
didnt think i had my phone so they hung up. How do I get the csr to realize
that there must be an issue in the tower at near my home. I am getting tired
of telling people I have sprint so you need to let it ring?????any help would
go a long way. Thanks

Re: spcs phones not rec. rings until after 5 rings
If store phones are doing this, too, then it's not a tower issue. The
issue is deeper than that. And you need to speak to a Trouble
Specialist, not just a CSR.
If you're willing, I'd like for you to try something for me. Don't
worry, we won't blow up anything... yet <g>
Basically, pick one of your phones. Pull its battery without even
turning it off. Leave the battery off for *at least* 5 minutes.
Reinsert the battery, turn the phone on, and wait 30 seconds after the
phone is at the main screen before calling *2 for customer support.
You don't need to speak to anyone. That's just to make certain that
the phone is registered on the network. Once you hang up the call, try
calling the phone from a landline. Let me know how that works out.
And don't get too excited if the phone rings immediately. All I'm
doing at this point is formulating a hypothesis.

Re: spcs phones not rec. rings until after 5 rings
Hi Sncshiner:
I'm in Jersey with a Sprint Treo and we don't experience that up
here on Sprint, but the work cell phones are on Verizon. They do
exactly what you describe. In fact, many times, the called phone
doesn't even ring, and instead the caller gets voicemail. Once I
received the voicemail notification a whole day after it was left, the
cell phone being on the whole time. I don't fight with them, because
they are the cheapest, and someone here that has been fighting with
them, getting the run-around, new phones, etc., with the same problems.
I've believe I've come to the conclusion that the system is jammed
with too many calls, and they will not admit it. They live off of
service charge when minutes are free.. Too many people just rachet-jaw
on the phones taking up all the resources until they get kicked off.
You might even find that you can buy an 'underground priority' account
for some more $$.. But, maybe not. Just me talking - mumbojumbo.

Re: spcs phones not rec. rings until after 5 rings
While I agree with you that the phone should not be working that way,
and I do not have a solution, I have always let the phone ring at least
10 times before hanging up. There are many times when people just can
not get to a phone within 5 rings. It used to be there were no cordless
phones and you were not near your stationary phone, or you were up to
your elbows in something. Now it also is "Where did that @#!$^%&
cordless/wireless phone get put last?"

This will be bigger problem when people move to VOIP. It may take longer to
detect VOIP phones. On top of that, if you forward your VOIP phone to your
cell phone (like I do when I am out of town) caller may here more then 5 rings
before my phone rings.
I agree, caller should allow atleast 10 rings before he/she hangs up.

I live near a major freeway. This happens to my Sprint phone every
weekday between roughly 4-6pm.
Within those hours, straight to voicemail without a single ring.
Outside of those hours, no problem (for the most part).
The most probable hypothesis is that the tower that serves me (and the
freeway) is overloaded during rush hour.
You may be near a chronically busy tower than cannot serve all incoming
connections.

Re: spcs phones not rec. rings until after 5 rings
Does it happen only in that location, or does it happen everywhere?
If it happens only in the location, then it is obviously the tower (or
you have really bad reception in your building).
If it happens everywere, then it is obviously something else.

Hi:
That reminds me of a story a long time ago where someone's cell
phone went 'bad' with some kind of hardware problem. Was in Florida,
too, if I remember right. The cell phone went into this mode where it
hung-up the cell site, I suspect steady transmitting! The revenue that
the authorites claimed they lost was staggering! They confiscated the
phone and dissolved and dissected chips to find out what broke and to
find ways to keep it from happening again.
