For those of you who are using or are trying to use a Bluetooth phone
with your Treo 650, would you mind offering some feedback, good or bad.

I am looking for a BT phone adapter for my Treo and would like to get
some user feedback before I go research through CNET.

    Thanks.

NO don't buy any of them, I have used 3 differnt types so far with no
    luck:
    jabra
    motorola
    plantronics

None of them seem to work with a darn, tons of static to where i took
it into the sprint store. The brand new one in the box did it as
    well.....

I wonder then if it is a function of the Treo and not the Bluetooth? I
previously had Nextel Blackberry with a BT250 and was very pleased with
the quality of the unit as long as I had a good charge. Now when the
charge went down people had some difficulty hearing me. I wore that
puppy every day for weeks and loved it.

I concur. And I blame the Treo 650, not Bluetooth. When it comes to
Bluetooth headsets, the Treo's range should be measured in millimeters.
And even then it only helped the sound on my end. People on the other
end constantly complained they couldn't hear, or that the sound was
breaking up. Trying to speak with an automated attendant (e..g., a bank)
was pointless ("I see you are having trouble, let me connect you with an
    associate."). Grrrr!

I went through several BT headsets before deciding it was an absurd
mission: you should be able to just pick one up and use it without
having to search for the Holy Grail of headsets. While some Treo sites
list headsets that apparently work OK, I've been burned enough: the last
one I tried, a Jabra, I neglected to return within my 14-day return
window. I'm not going with another.

Perhaps there are Treos with better BT transceivers, as I certainly read
about people using them on Treo sites. Maybe I just got one of the bad
ones. (Though of all the Treo *650s* I have seen in public--and the
other day in Vegas I must have seen a dozen--I have yet to see someone
    using a BT headset.)

The one side benefit is I no longer get the snide remarks and weird
    looks when wearing one. <g>

I ponder if Madonna uses Blue Tooth on stage.

Why would you get snide remarks? I do not understand. Were you talking too
loud on it and other folks were disturbed?

    Re: Treo 650 Bluetooth Recommedations

    Hi Mike,

I recently tried 3 different BT headsets for my sprint treo650 and all
worked pretty well. My decision came down to appearance, and ease of
    use.

The Plantronics voyager 510 appearance I liked best, but it is just a
bit to bulky behind my ear,

The Jabra BT250V was pretty good.

I decided to keep my Jabra BT350 it doesn't look the greatest, but is
is very compact and functions well.

    Re: Treo 650 Bluetooth Recommedations

    Mike,

I also wanted to let you know that I recently installed voice dialing
by "voicesignal" and I am very happy with it... I have 300+ contacts
in my treo from Outlook and it can call any one by voice with the
number or by name "call wife mobile" for example...

The intitial conversion of the contacts database after install went on
forever several minutes - I had to reset the phone. But it seems to be
able to dial all of my contacts - 1st to last....

    Great for travelling...

Actually, I can talk in a whisper on my headset (not Bluetooth). People
at the other end can hear the clerk when at a 7-11 talking to me.

But I can see an advantage of life without wires, but not in a WiFi rich
    environment.

Mij, slow down a bit. I wrote "when wearing one," not when "speaking
into one." There is a big difference.

Not that I care, but I have gotten snide remarks from friends and
associates when wearing a BT headset (e.g., "Lookout, here comes
Spock."). Yes, the comments are usually in jest. But so was my comment
about the side-benefit about not getting them anymore.

That's the exact model I recently got "stuck" with (failed to return it
before the return-period was up). It simply does not work well for me at
    all--as far sound goes.

I even left myself VM with the 250V (in my quiet office, with the door
closed). Then, before hanging up, I switched to using the handset's mic.
When playing back the VM the difference between the 250V and the
built-in mic was dramatic. I could *almost* handle the rather poor sound
quality on my end. But I cannot expect others to put up with it when I
    call.

Is it a defective 250V? I don't know. I suspect not since I had no
better luck with other BT headsets. My guess it's the Treo 650.
Apparently some have better BT than others. I would be hesitant to ask
for a warranty replacement since mine is only about two-months-old and
has no other issues. I would be afraid of receiving a refurbished older
unit that may or not have better BT--and may or may not have problems I
    didn't have before.

Oh yea, one thing that the 250V did well was STAY PAIRED. I paired that
thing once and it never needed it again. When it was in range of my
Treo, wham, it took control as it's supposed to. One headset I tried
needed re-pairing on nearly every use.

Indeed the 250V, when I finally had had enough of it, went into my back
pocket--and I forgot to turn it off. The next few calls I tried to make
drove me nuts: the 250V was taking control of mic/speaker and I didn't
realize it at first (business calls at that). When I finally got through
I was told they could hear me trying to talk into the phone (muffled,
but they could hear me). The darn thing worked better in my back pocket
than it did on my ear. <g>

Had I returned my 250V in time, the 350 was next on my list. But being
stuck with the 250V nixed that idea.

    Re: Treo 650 Bluetooth Recommedations

Are you using the latest firmware on your Treo? I have Bluetooth in my car
and the Treo 650 works fine now. With the original firmware it hardly ever
made a connection. With the 1.12 firmware the Treo had to be active in
order for the Bluetooth in the car to discover it. There was a recent
minor upgrade, I think its 1.12a, that fixed the discovery problem. With
the latest firmware my car always finds my Treo.

I am using the 1.12a (my Treo shipped with 1.12). But I also was under
the impression that 1.12a was supposed to address E911--and that's it.

The 1.12a update (E911_Firmware_Updater.prc) is less than 7 KB in
size--and more than 1 KB of that is simply ASCII text (user, error, and
internal messages and whatnot--nothing that seems related to Bluetooth).
I just can't see it doing any more than what it says it will do.

In any event, my current headset--the Jabra 250v--doesn't seem to have a
problem staying paired with my Treo (other headsets I tried did). And it
was easily discovered by the Treo.

For the record, my Treo's hardware version is "B." Do those of you who
have had good luck with Bluetooth headset on the Treo 650 have this
    version, or "A?"

Thanks. Maybe it's worth one more shot--as long as I don't forget to
return the darned thing if it doesn't work out.
