Treo 700

I talekd to a rep in 2 diffrent stories today and they said end of may is
when sprint will have it anyone else heard anything?

I've read that windows mobile market has expanded and
beat palm base.

I don't want to invest in software that is dying

I've read that too... but in Windows Magazine. But they are clearly biased.
In my eyes Palm is still #1.

I don't want to spend all that money on dying software either. I want to be
able to logon to my Slingmedia (Slingbox) via my Treo 700. The thing is
right now you need a Treo 700 with the Windows OS, like Verizon has. I'm
hoping that the Palm OS will have that capability. No word yet.

The 700p is due to be announced momentarily. The p is a Palm OS based 700.
The rumors are that the 700p is the version that Sprint will use. Until
it's announced we won't know if the 700p is the same hardware as the 700m,
hopefully it's not. The resolution of the 700m is inferior to the
resolution of the 650 because of a limitation of Windows.

Just noticed on Palm's web page that they have posted up some info on the
new 700p that SPCS & Verizon will be selling. Here tis -

I hate to reply to my own posts, but looking over the details,specs,
accessories, etc, links at the top of that web page, this looks like one
fine phone. If I were to buy one, I could see myself spending another $400
for the accessories.

morning, but I can't seem to find it anymore. Some of the details are

I'm kind of split on the 700p. On one hand it's great that it has more
memory, EV-DO, and (hopefully) a more-reliable email client (even though
it's still VersaMail). It also appears that dbcache will be larger than
on the 650 (that reserved section of RAM can be problematic, due to the
way NVFS Palms work).

OTOH, while it does have BT 1.2, it won't ship--at least initially--with
the A2DP profile. Sprint also doesn't have EV-DO coverage where I live,
and I am practically certain that they'll want to remove my
(grandfathered) Vision plan in order to activate this PDA phone. My
current Vision plan is unlimited for all handsets, including text
messaging.

Plus I can easily use my 650 with my laptop already. I suspect that will
change with the 700p, and I'll need some sort of PAM plan or--since I
rarely use it--get charged by-the-KB when I do.

The camera is not really important to me, and if it's anything like the
one on the 700w, which I expect it to be, the actual photos will not
seem 3-4 times "better."

Finally, I'd like to see how the thing actually compares to the 650 for
some of the basics, such as reception, Bluetooth, and sound quality. I
personally think the speaker on the 650 is too weak. You can use an app
(VolumeCare) to make this bearable, but it is at the expense of
distortion. I wish they would have included the BT A2DP profile with the
700p. I suspect it will be added--perhaps not by Palm--similar to the
situation with the 700w, but you never know.

All that being said, I'm *still* tempted to buy one. I'd be even more
tempted if I didn't have to pay more for practically the same service,
even though I won't benefit much from EV-DO (aside from when traveling).
I get around 25 text messages per day, so just losing that along would
cost me another $15 per month.

Thanks for those replies Mike. For yours truly, I too worry that SPCS will
want to change my options on my current plan, but considering I've been with
them since 98, paying appx $90 for three phones every month, and am out of
contract, methinks that the retention department will work with me.

I am in an EV-DO area, and look forward to seeing what this phone can do,
not only on quality of calls & data, speakerphone, BT, but also for the 2
Gig memory stick and working my doc & xls files while I'm out on the road,
instead of lugging around my laptop.(Old laptop, with a bad battery).
