Best Phone

Hi all,

I was just wondering what is the best phone out for sprint
I'm mostly interested in obtaining and holding a signal in
fringe areas & an external speaker.

Many feel that Sprint has never offered better phones for your
needs than the Sanyo line. I have been using Sanyo phones for the past
six years and can attest that their ability to grab and hold a signal
is truly excellent.

Friends have told me that the Samsung phones, which once
suffered from a poor reputation for quality and performance, have
improved in their recent models to the extent that they rival the
Sanyos. Someone who has used both extensively would have to comment on
that. I've never tried one.

I've always had a Samsung phone since I signed up with Sprint eight
years ago, so I can't speak for Sanyo. During the early years the
reception on my old phones could have been better, but I was okay with
it being a new user. In recent years I have discovered that the
reception has improved drastically; I can't remember the last time I
had a dropped call. I believe this is attributed to newer cell phones
and improved technology.

The Samsung VI660 I've been using for the past three years has been
receiving no less than four bars whenever I'm in Sprint nertwork. The
replacement phone, Samsung M610, is working just as well so far.

One should never look at the number of "bars" as any indication of
signal strength. They're put there by the manufacturer of the phone.
One manufacturer might decide that a weak signal deserves one bar,
while the next thinks two would be more appropriate. Etc., etc. Not
only is there no standard between manufacturers, there's not even a
standard between phones from the *same* manufacturer.

In agreement with most of the above posters, Sanyo will generally have
better signal reception than other manufacturers, and they generally
have a better external speakerphone as well. The only Sanyo I would
avoid because of the poor speakerphone is the Katana/6600. Most others
are fine. Also try to get something with an external. This slight
difference could give you that slight extra boost you need.

Another suggestion is to (if you're already on Sprint), switch to a
plan with no roaming charges. If you are a new customer, this will
likely be included in your new plan. This enables you to use non-Sprint
towers to make calls in areas Sprint doesn't cover, without having to
pay any additional charges.
