I am reluctant to get a smartphone considering the bulk and tight fit
    in my pockets.
I would prefer to have my PDA as a seperate device. However, WIFI is
    not everywhere I need it.
If possible I would like to connect to the internet with a PDA (a new
IPAQ), while using a Sprint bluetooth enbabled phone as a wireless
modem to tap into Sprint's high-speed data network.
Is this possible? How easy is this to set up, connect each time and
    use?
Will any bluetooth Sprint phone work?
    Thanks

It's possible, I did the same thing a few years ago with my Spring T608
phone. The thing you need to look out for is Sprint has updated many of
their bluetooth phones with new software to force users into purchasing a
"tethered" data plan so you can use your device as a modem. Not all of
Sprint's bluetooth phones are like this so make sure you cover your bases or
you may get a very big bill for data usage. Other than that on your ipaq
you would setup your bluetooth phone as a bluetooth modem, set the number to
#777 with no username or password. As long as your phone supports the
bluetooth dialup networking profile it should connect to the phone and then
dial #777 to get on Sprint's data network.
