Have a Razr battery question here. Any help appreciated.
I bought a Razr from Sprint 2 months ago. It worked fine for a couple of
weeks. Once fully charged, the battery would last about 3 days on standby.
But about 2-3 weeks into the phone, the battery life drastically degraded.
I was lucky to get 24 hours on standby on a full charge. So I took it back
to Sprint and they replaced the entire phone. Now I'm 3 weeks into the
second phone and history repeated itself.
I believe I am a pretty informed user when it comes to phones. I've taken
the following measures to maximize battery life on both phones:
- Turn off Bluetooth
- Turn off location service
- Turn off Vision
- Both the keypad and the screen has a 30-second timeout
I have decent coverage everywhere I go, so the phone wasn't draining its
battery by searching for signal all day long.
Out if spite, I tried different power outlets in the house to make sure
it's not caused by an outlet that has too high a voltage.
None of the other Sprint phones in the family has this problem, including
two Sanyos and two Samsungs.
None of the Razrs in the family has this problem either, including a Sprint
Razr and a GSM T-mobile Razr.
Does anyone have a similar experience?

Did you take it back to the same store? They may have a pile of phones
with defective batteries.
Does the RAZR have a removable battery or is it some soldered in piece of
**** like the iphone? If it's removable, you could tryout a battery from a
friend's phone.

Yes. I will not go into my whole ordeal right now, but can if
necessary. In short, it took me a full four months of being on the
phone with Sprint every day to get my problem remedied. Sprint changed
the handset (my wife's) several times, insisting it was the handset
when I could prove beyond any question that it could not possibly be.
They also changed my wife's number, thinking that would remedy the
problem. All it did was cause us more trouble, of course.
You may be experiencing the same thing I was with my wife's
phone. Do this: go into the phone menu to settings/phone info/advanced
(or whatever options your phone requires to see what channel you're
set to). Depending on where you're located you might be on channel
600, 625, or 650, but when the phone is not being used it should hold
tight on one channel and not vary at all. If you see the number
jumping, from say 650 to 600 and back, or if you're seeing the number
of bars rolling up and down seemingly at random, while your other
phones remain static, you have the same problem my wife's phone had.
The battery was being drained constantly whether the phone was
being used or not, because it was constantly handshaking on different
channels. Calls were also going to v-mail about half the time for the
same reason.
This is something that has to be corrected in the back end of
the system, but Sprint is set up in such a way that field engineers
don't talk to system administrators as a rule and vice versa. So in
the case of my wife's phone, I kept having field engineers tell me
that the cells in my area were all working and so there must be
something wrong with my handset. I had to get to the executive level
and demand that a technician come to my house and witness what was
happening to finally force someone to look seriously into the back-end
programming.
It was not a pleasant experience, but I knew it could be
corrected and I'd never had any problems with the system before or
since, so I dogged it out.
I hope that you do not have the same problem, but you should
definitely check for that possibility.

Re: Razr battery
Sprint has JUST started a recall on the Razr V3m.
The affected phones have ESN HEX numbers that start with "0" - zero.
If you google "sprint razr recall" you should be able to find more info,
when you get a replacement make sure the replacement phone is NOT a
recalled phone.
Family members just added new lines and both picked the Razr and BOTH
had the same problem, the one you just described.
One was sent a Red razr as a replacement, the other got another recalled
Razr as a replacement! We had to call back and tell them to send
another one. If you go to a store most likely all their Razrs are
recalled so exchanging it with another defective Razr will not solve the
problem.
Good luck!

Re: Razr battery
Ok, this needs to be corrected. The 'recal' has nothing to do with
batteries but you are correct in saying it does have to do with a lot
of phones that have the 0 as the 1st digit in the HEX ESN. There were
several models of motorola phones that something is not right with the
programming of them, and for whatever reason, they cannot be activated
on the data portion of Sprint's network. My understanding is that
stores should have already started receiving replacements for the
stock they had that was defective. So it probably would not be a good
idea to automatically assume that if you go to a store for a
replacement they will just be handing you another bad one. If you
received your motorola product in say the last 30-45 days, and the HEX
ESN begins with zero and are having problems connecting with data,
web, vision services in general, and care has not been able to get
your data working regardless what they have tried, then I am confident
that you have an affected phone and it needs to be taken to the dealer
for a waranty replacement.

Re: Razr battery
Updated: the software version that is arriving in the new
replacements for the problem phones is 24.200.48.01P. So if you get a
replacement Motorola RAZR with the HEX ESN starting with 0 [zero] that
has an earlier software version than this it will have the same
problem.

Re: Razr battery
How do you check the software version on the Razr?
It was my understanding that the software issue causes the phone to
continually handshake with the network, and this is what drains the
battery to quickly.

Re: Razr battery
hi everyone, I had a serious problem with battery life on my sprint
razr v3m, and updating the software, as suggested somewhere in this
group HELPED A LOT. I now went 2 days without losing a bar as opposed
to having to charge it twice a day.
go to settings/phone info/update phone sw
