I lost my Palm Treo 700 3 months ago. Although I had labeled the phone
and configured it with owner information in case it was lost, no one
ever called. Today a young girl called me, I can only guess she got my
number out of the old phone, she claimed to have been sold the phone
for $100 but could not activate it. She said Sprint told her it was
stolen and that she could try asking the owner to re-activate the
phone. I am so glad I had the phone disabled. I told her I was very
sorry but that I would not enable it. I offered her $50 for it and she
    agreed to return it.
I guess I can cancel my $7/month insurance on my phone and on my
wife's phone ($14) since this is now the official spare phone.

I'm guessing you had insurance on the lost phone. If so, and you paid a
deductable to get a replacement (rather than the full price of a new phone)
then the "lost" phone that you've now found is owned by the insurance
    company.

    Glad you got it back.

    Hi
I didn't have insurance on the lost phone. I did get insurance on the
    new one.
So....the phone is mine and I will cancel my insurance for the new
    phone.

Good deal. I mean, not good that you had to buy a new phone, but good
that you have a backup & dont need insurance any more.

I had insurance on my son's phone...of course, he lost it and I was glad I
got the insurance because it only cost $50 to replace. But then we found
the lost phone and I was informed that the insurance company has what they
    call "salvage rights" to it.

Not the same as your situation, but I just thought I'd throw that out there
in case anyone hasn't been down that road.
    Regards,
    Bill H

Re: Someone called me today asking if I would activate a phone I lost 3 months ago

I've seen people not return their phones to the company once their new ones
have arrived. Personally I think it's a lousy thing to do: request an
insurance claim and never return the damaged phone. If it's lost or stolen
that's one thing. But if it's not in my opinion I think people ought to be
more honest. Maybe if we got a taste of our own medicine so to speak in
certain situations, then perhaps we as people wouldn't be so quick to be out
for what we can get for little or nothing. This also goes along with what
someone who I believe is a CSR and posts to this group said. I don't
intentionally try to get something for nothing. I know I was raised better
than that and I'm sure many others out there were as well. I think, however,
that we tend to forget some of those lessons we were taught as children (if
we were taught them at all).
