I am thinking of changing from Sprint to Verizon. I have a Treo 700p.
Is it possible to use it with Verizon?

Call Verizon Wireless and ask them.

Will I need a new phone?

In order to enjoy all of Verizon Wireless' services, you may need a
Verizon Wireless phone. In some cases, depending on your current
service provider's network and your type of phone, you may be able to
use your existing phone, but availability of services may vary.

To put it another way, yes, it's possible, but VZW might not let you.

Thanks. I spoke to two Verizon people - got different answers - one
said I could use my current Treo, the other said I would have to
purchase a new Treo. Being confused I did nothing, but I would really
like to know if I can switch providers and retain my current phone.

most phones are "locked" to a specific carrier - to recoup their subsidized
    phone costs.
BUT - now things are changing.... hence the conflicting answers....
It APPEARS that both VZ and AT&T have announced they will support ANY phone
on their network.... from any carrier.

Any COMPATIBLE phone, that is. You can't use a Verizon CDMA phone on
AT&T's GSM network, or vice versa. Of the largest carriers, AT&T & T-
Mobile use compatible equipment (GSM), and Verizon, Sprint and Alltel are
    compatible with each other (CDMA.)
