I tried to get the 1.115SP update yesterday at a Sprint store close to where
I work, but their computers were down. They said that they could do an
update, but I would have to leave the phone there overnight because of the
computers. I asked how long an update usually takes, and she said about 4-5
hours. Now I thought I read on here that they got the update in under 15
minutes...
I went to 2 Sprint stores today to try to get the update. The store I went
to yesterday had people standing out the door so I turned around and went to
another store 20 minutes away. Got in right away and went to the CS desk and
asked about the update for my phone. The lady there hands it to someone in
back and asks if the phone needed an update, he looked at it for about 3
seconds and handed it back to her and said "No it doesn't need updating"
Even after I told them that I've talked to other Sprint techs saying that an
update IS available, she kept insisting that the phone didn't have or need
an update.
Anybody living in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach/Hampton area that has gotten
the update, and if so where did you go? There should be a way to update the
phone ourselves without having to put up with long lines and unknowlegable
in-store CS and store techs.

Another situation the Sprint employees online here will say "shouldn't"
happen.

Their networks were probably flooded with W32/Nachi or W32/Sobig.f

Wouldn't be if I were administering them.

If when you get in, noone is in front of you AND their computer systems
are working, then it will only take 15-30 minutes. Vut since their
computers were down, they probably also had a backlog to work on, so the
4-5 hour wait time does seem likely.

A perfect example of a tech I'd love to rip a new one. Doesn't read the
updates, doesn't pay attention in the conference calls...

Judging from what I've read here, you're lucky if you have enough intelligence
to turn on a computer, let alone administer a network. But you know everything
about everything, don't you? At least that's what you like to try to prove.

Re: 8100 Update in Hampton Roads area...
when i was lookin into working as a tech for sprint, went in there they
showed me everything they do etc...i took my phone back there and asked to
do an upgrade while i had it there, and she's like oh there's no update for
your phone avail...obviously alot of tech dont do anymore then the bare
minimum, or pay attention, check out newsgroups, websites like sprint users
etc...or simply check on the intranet for an update when a customer brings a
phone in unless someone insists there is an upgrade/update available...then
they might check it out, i would actually have checked the intranet for
updates when a person is having problems to make sure/double check nothing
new came out...but i couldnt just leave my current job with no notice, i
have too much time invested and actually want a good reference when/if i
ever decide to leave...so i didnt officially get offered a job/accept an
offer...
but definetly something i was interested in doing, learned alot in a short
period of time about the operations of a sprint tech/duties (supposed
duties)...phone updates/upgrades etc...oh well...hopefully they hired
someone stupid who knows nothing and they have to train the **** outta em
fer 3 months and then they say **** it and quit and they gotta start all
over again wit someone who doesnt know **** about how a cell phone works/let
alone sprints...or in most cases, how they dont work...(cept sanyo's of
course) :-P

From the postings here, that seems to be the norm.

What, would you just forward all the viruses to Executive Services?

Interesting... I just went to a Sprint store in Kansas just before
closing time yesterday. They confirmed they did have the 1.115SP
update, but that it takes 1.5 hours to apply. So I could leave my
phone overnight. I declined to do that, since we live quite some
distance from the nearest Sprint store -- but he said that if I bring
it in earlier in the day, they can apply it and I can drop by later to
pick it back up.

90 minutes? Do they manually update it Byte by Byte?

Re: 8100 Update in Hampton Roads area...
<<Another situation the Sprint employees online here will say

I agree, it shouldn't happen.
While I don't think that consuers should be able to download their own
firmware updates... as the Regular Joe Sixpack Consumer would not know
what to do and would risk damage to his phone/cable/pc/etc.... I *do*
think Sprint should make it much more easier for us to get our updates
at the store.
They should send a corporate email to all the stores, informing them
that an update is released and available... also containing info on what
the update does and what fixes it includes. That way, when
knowledgeable people like us go in and ask for the updates, it can be a
quick and painless process. Or, at the very least, they will know what
we are talking about.
If they already do this, then they should train people who are willing
to abide by the informative email. Or hire techs who actually want to
work and help the customer get what is rightfully available to them.
You would think that as WNP is on the horizon, Sprint would do
everything in its power to inprove customer relations. And the run
around stores give many informed customers doesn't help at all.

He said they had been very busy with these and there was a bit of a
wait.

In other words, they need to be out front selling phones, and doing
updates is a much lower priority.

The Tech Support folks are not the same as those "out front."
For someone who knows everything, I'm surprise you didn't know *that.*
