My wife and I just got back from Best Buy, where we spoke
to the Sprint Rep. (Not a Best Buy salesman, but the Sprint
Rep.).
My wife's been looking for a new non-flip phone, but the
rep said there were no plans to bring one out in the near
future.
It's naive for Sprint to think that *everyone* first looks
at a provider, *then* a phone.
I know a number of people that have done it the other way
around. Maybe not the best idea, but that's reality.
As such, I'd imagine that Sprint is losing, maybe not a
*large* part of the market, but a part, nevertheless.

Re: No New Non-Flip Phones?
I agree they do need some new non-flips and they need them fast. Too
many flips that look alike with not much variation can turn off some
potential customers. The Nokia 3588i will be a good start if it ever
comes out.

Check out the upcoming Kyocera KE424c / KX424 (Blade) tentatively for
sprint.

Yeah that looks to be a decent lower end non-flip. I really hope Sprint
will bring it out in the next month or so.

Re: No New Non-Flip Phones?
I could not agree more. I am really becoming very tired of my flip
phone. I have the Sanyo 5300 right now, and all my phones previous have
all been flip phones from sprint. I would really like to see some of
those smaller form factor phones that nokia and seimens are putting out
now. those are very slick i think. I am really looking for something
like that. AND one more thing that really irks me alot if sprints lack
of a real SMS system. i would really like to see that sometime soon. i
know we have all heard rumors of it POSSIBLY coming soon. that would
make my day if that came out. although i would like to see some new
phones too!

I'm assuming this person was a squatter (in the stores, just selling?).
They usualy don't work for SprintPCS directly (temp company) and unless
they know an insider, they don't know about new phones until right
before it is launched.

There are a few in the works,
Some people have been talking about the Nokia 3588 and the Sanyo 7200,
both candybar style phones.
The Hitachi P300 is on its way out (soon) and considering the popularity
and success of that model, I can see another coming out (This is 100%
speculation).

I never knew that... I just assumed...
Thanks for the clarification!
