I got a good deal, but I wanted a new phone

My Sprint contract was set to expire December 1. My mother and I have
seperate contracts but combined billing statements. Sprint sent me a
letter saying that I get 5% off of my monthly bill for signing a new 1
yr contract and also unlimited PCS to PCS for signing a 2 yr contract.
I called the main Sprint number to discuss this offer. The first
person I talked to was quite helpful. He said that my mother was
about to receive a letter offering her night and weekends at 8:00 p.m.
Completely on his own, he said he would give both of us all 3 perks
for signing new 2 year contracts. Then he said that even if I agreed
to this, I would have until the end of the month to cancel the new
portion of the contract. Well, I know that I'm not going to find a
better deal out there (I now get 300 anytime minutes, night and
weekends at 8:00 pm, and unlmited PCS to PCS, all for 5% off of $29.99
a month), but what I really wanted when I called was a new phone.

Now, I know they are offering old customers a phone deal if you a $35
contract. Is there any hope in getting that offer extended down or
should I just be a "good" customer and take the great deal I've
already been offered?

If they "accidently" forgot to tell you about being eligible for new customer
promotions via rebates, CALL THEM BACK.

Any chance you are a Costco member? If so, you can get the phones there at
an excellent price and the deal you get applies to existing Sprint PCS
customers. Thus ... you get a new phone for a good price.

That is a good deal, but I'd wait till your contract is over. SPCS has
been offering promotional holiday plans in past years, usually a week
or two before Thanksgiving. In addition, what with WLNP coming on line
effective 11-24, SPCS and all the other wireless companies may be
offering more competitive plans to attract customers from other
wireless providers.

You can only benefit by waiting.

(and get competive bids for service). THey will probably give you more.

You can't just single out SPCS here. A lot of wireless and landline
providers are running scared right now, including Verizon, on both
sides, landline & wireless ...

Tell them as much when you talk with them. They know the reason they are
suddenly offering these "deals", so if they know very well why you are
turning them down then they will know they have to offer better deals.

I tell them every time that I don't want to be bound by a contract. I
simply say that if you give me a good enough service for what I pay for, I
won't leave and there is no need for a contract.
