nokia phone models like the 1100, 2100 have a keyguard facility
(and few other facilities) that use a security code. to unlock
the keyguard, one has to enter the security code. to change the
security code, one has to enter the old code.
is there any way of getting past either of these without actually
knowing the security code?

If it's a GSM or GAIT phone, you could get the PUK or PUK2 code from
your carrier. This follows the SIM, not the phone.
If it's an AMPS, TDMA, or CDMA phone, I have no idea.

With a data cable and a PC with a program like logo manager or Nokia tool by
Rolis it is possible to display this code.
