Stopped by the company store of Alltel in Charleston, today. I see the
same V710 that's the subject of the Verizon class action suit over its
being all hobbled up to prevent actually using your computer-bluetooth-
phone link for anything useful, like downloading pictures from its camera.

I asked the Indian salesman if Alltel had hobbled up the V710, like
Verizon, and tried to get some straight answers as to what part of
Bluetooth would actually work on the phone. He fudged, of course, (do they
breed them for cellular employee service like this?) and tried not to
answer the pointed questions. Finally convinced I had some Bluetooth
knowledge, he took Tactic #2 and blamed Motorola for it being unusable. I
blew that out of the water with information from Moto's websites and
information I'd gathered on alt.cellular.verizon about the Bluetooth
phone's capabilities from Moto vs. its Verizon brother with everything
turned off but the most basic of functions. Disarmed, he finally relented
the phones were as hobbled on Alltel as they were on Verizon....probably
    hobbled carrier wide.

My parting shot was to give him the http://www.canyouhearusnow.net/ web
address and show him the pointers to the class action attorneys'
webpage...for his future reference. "Maybe if Verizon looses its corporate
ass in the suit, Alltel will come around.", I said as I shook my head and
exited the store NOT buying a new phone. The LG PTT phone with the big
speaker grille in the front kept dropping out with 2 bars of signal
    showing, too. Pity....I'd like a nice speakerphone....(sigh)

He didn't know what he was talking about. Alltel didn't hobble the V710's
    Bluetooth capabilities.

It'll download picture direct to the PC through Bluetooth?

I have done this with my V710 and Bluetooth on my notebook computer. Much
faster to pull the transflash card though :-)

I have a little Logitech Pocket Digital camera, the size of a credit card
and about 3 times as thick. Runs off the USB port, which even charges its
tiny Li-Ion battery in about an hour. Takes 54 640x480 pictures before you
have to download them to the computer. Software with it makes it too easy.

The pictures look much better than phone pix I've seen. It's so fast it
will stop water clear as a bell, coming over a waterfall. No flash is its
only deficiency but at $50, I can live with it.

Look over on alt.binaries.pictures.sports.ocean for the Sailnet pictures I
took at their belly-up store for the boaters to see what kind of pictures
    it takes.

No cellphone carrier games to play, either....Emails very easy as they are
    50K files.
