recently there has been a lot of buzz for iphone clones, and one that stands out is the Sciphone i68+. it has the basic features of an iphone, touch screen, the display is almost similar, java and what's intriguing is that it has an official Forums..

    yes official Forums..

it's almost considered as another brand of chinese phone. but what separated this one from the other chinese cellphone is that you can actually upgrade it's frimware...

just like any branded phone; nokia, iphone, sony ericsson etc.. you can upgrade it's firmware to enhance its capabilities and features.

with v1 the sciphone is just as crappy as any clones

with v2 it has gotten better and more people are now inquiring about it

with v3 now it has movable icons just like the iphone, and thru my research i've learned that they will be releasing Sciphone 3G soon.

i've never seen the actual thing working, but you can try to search it thru youtube.

and take note, if you're interested to buy one and give it a shot... you should beware coz this this iphone clone has clones/fakes as well (could you actually believe that??) and they only have a few and trusted suppliers or distributors... so if you want, you can go to their officialForums and see their Authorized Dealers

That's really quite interesting. I wonder if it has the same goodies that a real iPhone has with an accelerometer and proximity sensors and matching or near matching hardware. Also, I notice that the MP3 Player is labeled "iPod", and I'm curious as to the legality of usint the term 'iPod' on the device. I know that 'iPod' has become a more or less generic term meaning mp3 player, move over kleenex and band aid.. but given that, can the manufacturer legally get away with calling the mp3 player 'ipod' as well as use a standard Apple ipod graphic? But then again, we are talking about the Chinese, who are known for ignoring copyrights and trademarks.

Went and looked up the stats on it...
    Quad band GSM...
2 Gigs max if you buy 2 gig card for it, comes with 1 gig...
    320x240 display x 262k colors...
    A2DP Bluetooth...
2 mpx camera... 1280x960 max resolution...
    Firmware upgradable as Brainox mentioned...
"Shake and Tilt control function", so I guess it does have an accelerometer.
    Here's the kicker:
    Supportable OS: Win2k/XP/Vista
Cool, now I can have BSOD on my mobile!

just some clarifications, sciphone is compatible upto 8gb max TF card.

about the mp3 player, is that the mp3 player on the sciphone that you're saying? coz if it is, i believe the real sciphone has no apple or ipod logo or what so ever. it uses only the Sciphone logo and nothing else..

it uses Nucleus Plus OS firmware and the processor is Mediatek MT6225 processor (ARM7 core).

Browsing around the web, I noticed some of the pictures of it had "iPod" instead of "Multimedia" for the mp3 player. They must have changed it because I'm pretty sure the word iPod is trademarked by Apple, although, it's more or less become a generic term such as 'band aid' or 'kleenex' has. Pretty cool phone though, would be nice to have one as a backup for my iPhone, and/or something to be able to program myself. I don't have a Mac, so I can't dev any apps, but this one is much more open which would allow app development for me. I would like to pick up a Mac though, so I could dev some apps and get them up on iTunes and maybe make a few bucks I was wondering if it was able to accept simultaneous screen taps or not. I've noticed alot of clones can only accept one.

    Re: Sciphone i68+ ( iphone clone )

i see, if you want one just pm.

there are lot's of crappy clones there and is really annoying. it doesn't recognize simultaneous taps though ( well wat do you expect w/ a 100 dollar phone) but it does have very good and fun features. it kinda suck though that you can't create a playlist. the firmware developer Javqui is still doing some update and application changes (like the real iphone huh?)

well actually, it's ok kind of phone. can't really expect that much for a cheap phone. but it has cool features. it's shake function, also it has a accelerometer. it's not that slow too.

actually im still thinking whether to get iphone, n95, or 5800. they all have that on twift.com and so far when it comes to price comparison, im leaning towards buying from them.

    Re: Sciphone i68+ ( iphone clone )

nope, i really want one of those 3. im willing to spend on the iphone, if i think all that i'll need and want will be met by the OS 3, so im still kinda hanging.im not saying sciphone is a bad phone, it's a great one and it gathered lots of positive feedbacks aswell. but why would i settle for something simple, when i can get a much better one by adding a couple of hundred bucks right?

    Re: Sciphone i68+ ( iphone clone )

well for my case, im not so techy. so a phone that can be called and make a call, one that can be text and can send messages is enough.

the reason im kinda interested about the iphone is the interface, and touch capability. i watched some videos of it in youtube and i want that phone for it's fast reaction to touches...
