I realized that those people who loved iPhones were getting younger and younger. I've read a headline later this morning, and the content was about the issue on children using iPhones. They think that iPhone was a toy and not merely a fragile gadget.

Re: children using iPhones
I can't see letting a child have an iPhone. Maybe I'm old.
My kids (5, 7, and 9) love mine for the chess and other games. But that's all they get of it. And that's under direct supervision at all times.

Re: children using iPhones
These are the days where technology is very popular. Everyone has something that is "media".
The iPhone is simply another type of phone. I feel that if a kid can have a basic flip phone, then an iPhone is no different. My son will be getting his first phone when he turns 13 and it'll be a HTC DROID Eris next week.
I have a feeling that in the near future children will be born with headphone buds in their ears.

Re: children using iPhones
Hahaha...this is a great topic. I am one of the nuts that let my 2.5 year daughter running round my house with my phone. Until I saw her play with it and how she interacted with the games, I never understood the yuppies who let their kids play with such an expensive toy...a toy people spend top dollars buying cases and screen protectors to protect!! But I tried it once and I can no longer deny her my phone. I happen to run into this blog post the other day about EXACTLY this topic. I think it happens more often than you think...look at all the kids apps. I am seriously thinking of getting an iPad as a toy for my daughter. We take long drives often and the iPad would do wonders for her entertainment and education. It beats the hell out of an overhead DVD player. Try it and you will understand...

OK. I'm old. On the other hand...
My autistic five year old beat me at iPhone tic-tac-toe the other day.

Re: children using iPhones
@Pablo. Keep naked pictures of your other girlfriends off it or at the very less, get one of those apps to encrypt them. Also, don't use it to watch porn at work...or get one of the privacy screen protectors. Oh, and I forget. Try not to do either one of those things while you drive. It can ruin lives if you do.
Other than that, I think the phone will enhance your life.

Re: children using iPhones
get yourself the Otterbox Defender iPhone case...I've heard it can survive a 2 story drop and getting run-over by pickups (happens to construction guys often, I guess)
If you play with them and not use it to shut them up or as a babysitter, it's fine. A simple case will do enough protection from a foot or two fall onto carpet.

Actually, I think the Speck Candyshell might be better for kids...it's a hell of a lot smaller. I love mine. The Otterbox is like a tank, but it's too damn big.

Re: children using iPhones
iPhones are $99 to $299 at present, with a contract, from AT&T. Whether a given kid should have one or not depends on the kid, and on the situation.
My older two (8 and 9) share one of my old phones that cost fifty bucks ten years back. I give it to them when I think they need it, they give it back when they're done. But it remains my phone, not theirs. It works for our family, here in small town New England.

Re: children using iPhones
I think kids should get phones when they turn maybe 12 or 13 but kids are getting more mature nowadays.

Re: children using iPhones
Society as a whole is changing, and fast. It's not just technology, it's people. When I was a kid, nobody had ever even heard of a cellular telephone. And it was vanishingly rare to hear of an attack on a child, or any of dozens of things we see in the news nowadays. Phones for kids have their place.
