I have a very plush full-size Ford conversion van that I bought for a song last year. I needed something comfy to take the Demon Children on road trips with, and this certainly fits the bill. Thing is, the reason it was so cheap is that it's a 1991 model. Low mileage, runs great, and uses no oil, it's just that it's old enough to vote.
So, I'm in the process of updating it. I've got the new stereo, CB and 350-watt Ham radios, lighting, cooler, and suchlike all covered. Now I'm looking at the video system. The factory-installed system consisted of a VHS player and small CRT-type television, mounted low in a console between the front seats. I'll be removing those, and installing a flat screen of some type. Possibly in a fold-down mount on the overhead. I'm interested in running my 32 GB iPhone 3GS as either the primary or a secondary video source. It has plenty of storage, and that would give me control of the kids' video from the front seat.
Has anybody done a setup like this? If so, what did you use, and how do you like it? For anyone else, got any suggestions? All ideas considered...
