I am a month long user of the iphone....and I love it.
I converted from a blackberry. I was able to make file for my pictures like
kids
work
vacation
However I can't seem to figure out how to do that on an iphone.
does anyone know if this can be done and could you help a newb?

Sure, it's easy to do. Create a folder (usually in your my pictures folder, but can be wherever). Name that folder whatever you want (mine's called iPhone Pics). Then, in that folder, create your groupings... i.e.
kids
work
vacation
Load your various images into the appropriate folders.
Then, open iTunes and connect the iPhone to the computer. After it syncs the phone, click the iPhone icon on the left pane, and then the far right most tab is labeled "Photos". Click that tab, and check the check box at the top (can't miss it) that says "Sync Photos from:". Then click the gray button, and select "Choose Folder..." and browse to the the main iPhone photo folder that you created (the one with the sub folders), and then sync the phone again and it will copy all the photos onto the phone using the folder structure you created inside of your iPhone folder.
