Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

I just got done setting up my GOOGLE page with my Gmail account, and also a YouTube home page so if i want, i can up load a video from my DROID. I gave it a test run and it work fine, you have to take your time and go through the steps after setting up your GOOGLE home page, and then set up a youtube home page and receive a Mobile address. This is an email address YouTube provides after you sign up, then all you have to do is attach your video and send.

It does take a little time for the movie to appear on your you-tube page.

Android 2.1 rolls out December 10, new Android Market functionality?

Yesterday Google updated Android´s official website, which immediately led to speculations that the change was due to the soon to come Android 2.1. According to AndroidandMe, the new OS edition will roll out at about the same time when the new terms and conditions for using Android Market become effective, i.e. from December 11 onwards. The rumor also has it that the Motorola DROID and HTC DROID ERIS will be among the first handsets to get updated to the new version of Android on the above-mentioned date.

But this is not all. There are also speculations that new functions are coming to the online application store at the same date - customers will be able to pay for purchased programs via their carrier as well as a software client that allows access from a normal computer.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

    Droid In Motion

So we all have had the DROID for a few weeks now and the violin plays the sounds of our likes and dislikes about the DROID.

NO FLASH PLAYER come on, who the hell is designing these phones. I’m mean we all have common favorites, like… taking a video/photo and send it via email, text message and receiving a video and playing it, downloading it… no it couldn’t be simple, we have to FIND SOME SECRET CODE OR MAGIC WAY AROUND DETOURS AND OBSTACLES.

The second coming of the DROID LORD December 11th 2009, the fix all, I hope we don’t get a big let down. I talked to a store manager and he knows nothing of it, maybe he’s not up on such things.

    Android 2.0.1, Release 1 | Android Developers

Personally I wish the DROID didn’t have a slide out QWERTY, the phone would of been slicker, lighter, with a more finish design. Of course I never use it, so I would never miss it. The QWERTY option is a great marketing tool for those who don’t like the touch screen.

I do like the fact I can touch this phone without worrying about the screen illuminating, not unless I awake it by pressing the top button, I wish it was a slide, but so be it.

The battery, well you want power, you want a phone that’s real fast, well; it takes power. You need to change your cell phone habits; keep a charger and extra batteries with you, at least you don’t have to attach that goiter (battery charger) like the iPhone uses.

The DROID does not have constant reminder alerts for pending messages or miss calls, I like that, the stealth design and covert attitude. Again I had to re-adjust my cell phone habits by monitoring my phone, I’m getting use to it. The blinking light for pending messages is cool, the DROID also has no indication for a miss call, but if I miss call and that caller doesn’t leave a message… then how important can the call of been, when I check my status bar I’ll decide if I want to call back miss calls that don’t leave a voice mail, I usually don’t return those type of ghost calls anyway.

We all have our WANTS and NEEDS, and that decides the importance of the DROID’S capabilities. Lets face it, Google and √erizon are on the cutting edge here, remember when the iPhone was introduced, people were screaming MURDER, so… I think the DROID concept will evolve in time.

Try an stop treating the DROID like it’s your BARBY DOLL or your G.I. JOE, by dressing it up, endless themes, endless wallpapers, BIG HUDGE CLOCKS, flashing lights, loud alert sounds, do we really need our phones acting like crazy CAR ALARMS.

Cell phones are a temporary state of communication, within the 1 year of having a new cell phone we start looking forward to upgrading our cell phone and eye balling our contract date with the anticipation new cell phone releases.

I like wallpapers and appearances like the next person, but how much do I need to impress myself, I mean I’m the only one who looks at the phone illuminated 98% of the time, most people see a dark screen.

People like Music, Office/work related Syncing, Movies, Messaging, Photos, and Videos… so a SMARTPHONE should act SMART when addressing these issues/Applications… but not out-smarting itself. Do any cell phone designers even consider SIMPLICITY when designing a phone?

I like the DROID, the more I learn about it… the more I like it. Be patient, don’t get frustrated so quickly, some people adjust better to changes than others; changes take three weeks/21 days of constant practice to become habit, so if your adapting to something new on the DROID give it time.

Enjoy what you have, don’t try and make it something its not. The more stuff/Apps you put on your phone, the more chances of having problems and conflicting intergrades, its just the LAW of numbers.
Keep in mind the more you do and involve you get with the DROID, the more you’ll have to intergraded and adapt to a future phone.

I think at the end of the day MOST of us (Non-Business) default to making calls and texting on our cell phones, and everything else is a second echelon.

I have the advantages of having four phones under my name so upgrade options are never to far apart, my next upgrade is due around March, and I’ll start looking what’s on the horizon after Christmas.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

The manual update has hit the street, again good and bad is being said, what's working better, what doesn't work after the update, and some have said it has had no real impact on the performance of their phone...Go figure

I will wait until √erizon sends it to me, i not loading anything from the internet/ unless it was straight from the √erizon website. To tell the truth my phone seems to be running fine, i really don't have any major complaints, so i'm not in a rush to get this update from just anywhere that offers it.

its just not a uniform fix, the update has cause to many different results after installing the update manually, so i'll wait.

If your in HEAT to update, a hint for MAC users, if your going to download the UPDATE, press Ctrl and BAR, and choose... DOWNLOAD LINK, it seems to download the update properly, and seems to have good results for MAC users, then again YOU DECIDE.

    **************

Playing with google GOGGLE, one of my low priority Apps i speak of, it performs a GOGGLE search by taking a photo of something... if anything, its pretty cool.

The KEY RING App could be useful, you perform a bar code scan of a discount/coupon card, lets say SHOPRITE, you scan the bar code on the SHOPRITE card, and store it in the KEY RING App, and though i haven't tried it yet, when you need to use it, you pull the bar code up on your DROID, the cashier scans it with the HANDHELD. The App suggest you don't try and scan your bar codes over the TV screen type of scanner because the reflections will interfere with the scan and not work.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

i received my update this morning (7am est). Seven AM is when i noticed it, i don't know when it actually was available on my phone (SLEEPING), but it did happen between 11pm and 7am. Also i didn't realize i gotten the update to install until i unlocked the phone, when i awaken the phone (press top button) the status bar had no icon indicating a update was available, when i unlocked the phone it appeared on the screen itself.

It didn't take long, MAYBE a minute, everything seems to be fine, took a little for Gallery to appear, i deleted the old icon/shortcut (Gallery) on my home screen, and once Gallery stuff appeared i reset the shortcut icon back to my home screen.

Throughout the day is when i'll find out how well the DROID took the update and if it actually did anything noticeable other than the unlock swipe bar.

Re: The Droid Review... IN REAL TIME

My update also showed up last night. It was there at 3 a.m. when my child woke me up. It installed quickly. I also had to delete and reinstall my pisture fram widget on the home screen. It was no longer displaying a photo. One thing I noticed was that it made me relogin to the Facebook App. My only complaint is that all of my FB contacts that were therenow have two profile lines.

In general, the phone performance seems noticably faster. Hard to tell about the battery life since I think the upgrade triggered me to play with it more today. I have been making full days on the battery anyway (with a lot of hands-on). So far I LOVE this phone.

I took a couple of pictures and I believe the camera works better as well. I did notice that the barcode apps read faster. So far so good.

    DROID KEY RING App...

Yesterday i got to apply my KEY RING app, went to Shop-Rite and purchased a few items, at the register i took out my cell phone, opened KEY RING, tap my file SHOP-RITE and the bar code appeared, the cashier scanned it with her HAND HELD scanner, and it applied, the flat bed TV screen type scanners creates problems because of reflections, so have the person use their hand held. Great App, if your one who carries many of those shopping cards, use this App, it works and its handy.

I was one who never carried discount cards on a key ring, storing them on my cell phone using KEY RING is a useful and sensible App, i mean who doesn't carry one of those type of cards for one thing or another.

When you store them on your DROID, it may not recognize your card, just title it yourself and store it, but it gives you the option to send the title/store card to the App developer to load in their files. Beware of what you send!! Maybe the developer can shed light on this procedure.

    DROID December UPDATE...

On my DROID... i haven't really seen any GREAT improvements to speak of... MAYBE... a smoother touch screen, not sure, seems like it... MAYBE.

You probably heard by now STACKS of Pro's and Con's after the updates (induced and self-induced) to their phones... some say it works great, some say no change, and some say it created problems on their phone.

I never had any real problems with my DROID, maybe the UPDATE just tweak it a little, the update definitely gave it a different slide lock pattern, that's the only major change i see or can speak of. See Photos Below

    NEW after update

    OLD before update

As my DROID is becoming HABIT, I'm liking it more and more...

For those of you who DON'T WANT 35 Home Screens and only use 3, here's a TIP.

Go through your contacts and see what numbers you call or need on hand quickly, tap on the number in CONTACTS, then tap the STAR, it (Star) should now will the be highlighted. Continue doing this to desire numbers.

Go to one of your three home screens options, press and hold (empty spot) until the menu option board appears and choose FOLDERS, then choose STAR CONTACTS.

All the numbers with highlighted STARS will now appear in this FOLDER on the selected home screen. No more searching for those 5, 10, or 15 numbers you always seem to look for.
