When Did You Get Your First Cell Phone

I got my first cell phone in 1988, $29.95 a month for 30 mins with ROAMING, so I had to watch what area I was calling from, I think it was 30-40 cents a minute after my 30 minutes, 75 cents if I was out of my area. My first hand held was a Sony in 1991-92, I new then that the mounted car phone days were limited.

mine was on 2000 during my 2nd year in college.

Thinking back when I got my first phone, man... it has come a long way and a big money business at all levels.

good topic...i got my first "brick" (motorola 550) in 95 as a graduation present from my mom....but i still paid a $500 deposit because i had no credit. Got it back in 6 months just in time to pay a bill from roaming in florida for a week...
I have been in the cellular business since 1999 and my 6 year old has had a phone since last year...i know most people dont think kids that young need phones (most 11-12 yr olds are getting them) but my son is extremely talented and can do anything with his phone that i can do. He takes pictures, sends them to us, games, he loves it more than his gameboy. The main reason he has it is when hes with my mom (who has POS company phone) i can reach him and not worry about using her line (if it works). I actually got him the kids "Migo" from verizon and he wasnt happy since it was so limited. Now hes using one of my old $20 ebay camera phones. If he loses it, i turn it off and buy another for $20. Hes actually learned alot of responsibility with keeping up with it and more importantly...CHARGING it...lol

Any good perks with being in the cellar business...?

As i said before, since providers made cellar phones kid friendly, kids today... (I’ll use 12 but maybe i know there even younger), want cell phones to talk to their friends, its vogue! When wireless started given crazy minutes a month, that started the ball rolling with text, internet, music, video, now cameras, emails, video, and the parents are getting peppered with the bill for all those cell phone extras.

My daughter has had a cell phone since she was in the 7th grade, she now a Jr in high school, she has Nextel until the contract is up with free incoming and nights and weekends free with free nights starting at 7 PM, which i wish Verizon would offer. She does not text, i did allow her to download a few ring tones she wanted, but no Internet service, its a cell phone... SAY HELLO, leave the typing for the computer...lol.

If your in sales or were, did you find parents buying cell phones like they were toys for their kids? I know my nieces and nephew want it all, Internet, text, emails, IM, the latest phone out, just as long as they stay in vogue with their friends.

My first cell...hmmm...hafta think about that one. Lets see, it all started two weeks ago, lol. My first cell was a Samsung SGH T509, it was ok, but I knew I wanted a Razr from the git go, so I took it in, and got myself a Razr, and am happy so far. Read my Razr V3 review while your at it.

I actually still have a demo line thats unlimited EVERYTHING...its set to be converted to my share plan soon but it was a good thing for 3 years as my gf talks 3000 min a month (this is only because she could for free)

yes ive been in sales with verizon for 6 years...most of the phones for younger kids were labeled as "so i can get ahold of you" by the parents but end up being toys

well i got a phone close to 3 years ago when i was in 8th grade motorola t722i with my dad family plan for 800 minutes a month and 2.99 tzones and 300 txt messeges for like 90 a month i never went over never over did anything since then my cell phone persona has changed my school and my friends know me as the person who knows cell phones i have had close to 60 cell phones that i have used on my sim card atleast once right now im using the motorola v3i wow so much

My favorite phone before i got my razr was the star tac... it was pretty cool at the time. I still have my first hand held Sony from around 1990, long, slim, leather case, huge by today's standards.

i still have a box of startac piggyback antennas in retail packaging...i just cant make myself throw them away....ahhh the piggybacks
