Anyways.. for my question...... I have a Nokia 6010 phone. When my Sony Ericsson W800 comes in can I use my sim card from my nokia 6010 in my SE 800? The SE 800 is unlocked. Are all sim cards compatible? Or do i take the phone to cingular and have it activated? Can you have 2 phones activated at one time? or do they disable the other sim card when they activate my new one? Can you clone sim cards? to have 2 phones under one line?
I saw the Sony Ericsson W800 and decided to get it. Sure its 500$ but add the price of your cell phone + ipod + walkman + Camera + Video. If it last for 3-4 years then its worth it imo. I also got the ipod cases for my cell phone ( the rubber sleeves ) to help it last longer..

4) No, activation with GSM phones is not done. The SIM asks the tower to connect, and it replies based on an account lookup/roaming agreement. You're probably thinking of the older phones which used the IMEI number, which had to be "activated" by the carrier, which would allow your phone to connect to the tower. This is NOT how Cingular does it (anymore anyway).
5) Again, you keep the same sim card, your just moving it from one phone to the other. They won't deactivate a SIM unless you cancel service or stop paying your bill (it's not really "deactivated", but the tower will not let the phone connect)
6) Yes, it's been done. Cingular does random sweeps for this and there's not really any good reason to do this.
7) Two phones cannot share the line. Assuming you cloned a SIM and had the phones connected to seperate towers, they may allow access, but again cingular audits will probably find it and disallow both sims from accessing the towers due to fraud. Plus it wouldn't know who to call for incoming, etc.
I suggest browisng around on the internet for GSM and SIM card info if you're still curious as to how the whole system works. Howardforums.com has had a few good threads on the topic in the past, too (you'll probably have to search for them, I forgot which forum they were in).

Wow amazing! I totally understand now! Thanks man! I already did a lot of seaching before all of this and still didnt know the correct answer. As for reception? I have pre-payed so i'm going to test it out. I think in my area 1900 is pretty strong. I dont care about if i leave the city. I knew this when I got it. I'm willing to sack a little reception for the phone tho. AS for rooming? Cingular has nation wide so it dosent really matter if im using everyone's towers BUT cingulars right? anywho.. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE ANSWERS MAN!

BTW: I love my SX66 and it does almost everything that one does (except EDGE). Sure it's a little bigger but it's been pretty decent. Once again though, I can't decide for you. Try out your phone, just make sure you can return it if it turns out you do have problems.

Well since I have no contract I can test out cingular. If i switched to t-mobile will i get better reception? I mean.. eather way im still using the same towers right?
Er yea i dont really want a pda style phone tho.. Small and compact is what I like.
Next thing they need to add to phones is GPS! so i can find the d@mn girls house!
I can't wait to get it.. I'm going to set my computer up to record www.alternativeaddiction.com radio station for a couple of hours.. and automaticlly send it to my phone so when I wake up it will be on there.. That why if nothing is on the radio I can switch to that radio..Last edited by Yellow-Snow; 09-21-2005 at 10:57 PM.
