Hey all, I thought Cingular was bought out by AT&T or something. Is it safe to get Cingular service? My contract with Verizon runs up the 25th of this month. I love Verizon Service but I hardly get a signal at home. I have a Cingular tower right by my house but I'm affraid they will take the tower down cause I heard Cingular was bought out and towers were going down around my area. Could someone straightin me out. I live in Indiana if anyone wants to give me any suggestions on what phone provider to go to. Thanks.

Also, if I go with Cingular, which phone should I try to get?

You got it wrong. It's the other way around. Cingular bought out AT&T Wireless long time ago.

That's why there was a lawsuit against Cingular for degrading the service on AT&T Wireless.

Keep in mind I said AT&T WIRELESS.

What probably got you confused is this. SBC (formerly Pacific Bell) owns Cingular.

SBC got bought out by AT&T recently.

    Make sense?

I don't think you have anything to worry. In fact, people enjoy the coverage Cingular provides. I say in coverage, Verizon and Cingular are tied in first place.

Actually, in 2008, Cingular will more than likely become ATT again. It will still use the same network that Cingular has always used, so no worries.

From what I have learned, Cingular is not going anywhere any time soon. The recent changes have been acquisitions by the Cingular parent company. I believe Cingular was actually partly controlled by the former ATT wireless.

At any rate, the only changes that may be coming would be the possible name change of Cingular in the future. If you have noticed, SBC (Cingular's parent company), has chosen to use the ATT name, as it has stronger name recognition. I am curious to see if Cingular follows suit.

You bring up a good point. Even with Cingular's reputation, ATT has a bit more of a positive vibe when it is being related to current and prospective customers. Especially for ones who are less knowledgable about what's been going on the past couple of years.

As for the current blue & orange customers, there is going to be some confusion. Probably the ones who, I think, are going to be pissed off are the current "blue" customers. Some people don't realize that what they got from the "old" ATTWS were promos. They're probably going to ask why they can't keep the promos. But the network is still going to be the same.

All this just means more work (or headaches, if it's better suited) for CSR's when they have to explain the situation when it happens.

if they change name, it will really confuse "old" un migrated att customer. They will have to migrate from att to att. lol
