We're closing in to the final quarter of the year and as is been the tradition for the past several years, Apple has lifted the veil on its latest flagship phone. It's been rumored and leaked on numerous occasions before, but now it's official and we can finally put an end to all the speculations, and look at the sweet facts. Let's begin by discussing a bit about what makers the latest iPhone 5s tick.

The handset features a 4.0 inch display with a resolution of 640 x 1136 and a pixel density of 326 ppi (so, virtually there's no change from the iPhone 5), an Apple A7 processor (unknown frequency and number of cores at this point), 16 / 32 / 64 GB of storage, an 8 MP main camera with dual-LED flash, a 1.2 MP front-facing sensor, a non-removable Li-Po 1440 mAh battery that is said to offer up to 10 hours of talk time and up to 250 hours of stand-by time, and iOS 7 OS out of the box.

Now, these are the basic hardware specs and they really sound awfully familiar. You'd say that not much has changed when compared to the iPhone 5, but that's not entirely the case. For starters, the camera has indeed suffered a few changes - thankfully in a good way. Although there's still no optical image stabilization, the iPhone 5S has a sensor with 15% more surface than its predecessor. More so, the 5S' camera has an f/2.2 aperture, whereas the older model had an f/2.4. Not a huge improvement, but I suppose it's better than nothing.

But the biggest and most noticeable addition is the new home button which acts as a fingerprint scanner. Yes indeed, after many months of dealing with tons of leaks regarding this matter, the fingerprint thingy is indeed a reality. However, since the device still lacks NFC and as such it can't offer a lot of payment options, the fingerprint scanner feels more like a fun little toy, rather than a practical addition. Sure, it may offer an extra layer of security, but it may also become a nuisance.

Other details regarding the iPhone 5S' fingerprint scanner (officially called the "Touch ID") include the fact that it has a resolution of 500ppi and it can apparently scan at a sub-epidermal level. It's also protected by a sapphire crystal.

Moving on, the iPhone 5S also arrives in three colors , those being silver, black and a new flavor which is gold. Contrary to rumors regarding the possibility of a 128 GB model, the amount of on-board storage remains the same. Apple will offer the 5S with 16, 32 or 64 GB.

As far as the prices go, the gadget will set you back $200, $300 or $400 on-contract (depending on the storage option), while the off-contract prices are set at $650, $750 and $850 respectively.

The iPhone 5S is not going to be available for pre-order, but it will go on sale in Apple's stores starting with September 20.

Is anyone interested in buying the new iPhone 5S? What are your thoughts regarding this device, and do you think that the 5S is a worthy update over last year's model?
